banjosnap 171
Self-awareness is in narnia Katy made lackluster music. Katy worked with an abuser. Katy had no message. On what planet did this look like a formula for a successful album cycle? She is coming off a series of disasters.. and THIS was the proposed redemption?! Sorry if I just don't understand PR but a double-flop would imply that her base is dwindling & she has lost the appeal that generated interest, no? So.. with 143 did she attempt to improve her image to get new fans or regain older fans? Well... no. She said "get same producer as teenage dream!" Regardless of how it looks. Sh1t on Bobby all you like, but beyond "here's her tìts" Katys manager is clueless. But that got me thinking... with Gaga we had a redemption arc. Cheek2cheek, sound of music, national anthem, stevie tribute, sting tribute, Baku performance, AHS, cover cover cover, then inoffensive album Joanne followed by big Silver screen starlet comeback with ASIB. How did Gaga do it? Well, she used her assets: her voice, her message, her talent. Now put Katy in that position. Would she be able to do any of those things? Would it work? No. The fact of the matter is quite sad. She has very little to work with and zero growth as an artist because of it. Think about it. What unexpected eye-catching talent will Katy use to be in our good graces? Is she going to bust out a guitar for another homophobic song? Put more suggestive cream shooters on her nips? It was always heading this way. Edited February 18 by banjosnap Bish I had more to say 1

Idk, I cut Katy slack. Luke's just a producer, not her bestie, not her idol. Just a tool to be used to make (what she thought would be) hits. I don't exactly look to Katy Perry for moral guidance so idc what she does Now I am gonna stop you here, mister Gaga learned from her mistake, Katy didn't. Gaga removed the song from streaming and new pressings of the alboom. Katy was gloating during press on why she was working with Dr Puke after all that happened in past few years with him and Kesha. Also, your last line in this reply is very problematic, inappropriate and disgusting to say the least. It's like a spit on rape survivors, which includes Gaga. But hope you enjoy the arena show though.
holy scheisse 22,090
ill never get over the sh*t show that was woman's world lmao. "female empowerment" as she trotted around in her skimpy outfit looking so 2009 male-gazey, claiming it was satirical after the fact, for some reason breaking/entering and stealing from a woman of color in the music video (lmao genuinely WTF was that part?), working with a known abusive man to create the song in the first place. the supreme level of lack of awareness... the lack of artistic growth... she deserves every drop of hate she gets and i'm so glad she's getting it growt tf up kate hudson Edited February 18 by holy scheisse

If you had 500 pizza parlours on a street, one owned by a known abusive predator & 499 that were not owned by abusers, and the abuser also costs more to use.. AND if you use him you have to wear a Tshirt branded with the pizza place's logo for a year in public.. and you know your pizza order will be huge & you're going to serve slices to the public while promoting female empowerment.. Are you going to the abuser or to one of the other 499 you could've chosen? And who's to blame for that choice & the subsequent backlash? Just A Holy Fool 2,540
I'm sorry, but I didn't see any acknowledgement of the very poor choice to work with the alleged predator, all the while pushing this narrative of female empowerment. The negativity was rightly deserved. The music was also complete trash.
Ashley 9,135
Idk if this is like the elephant in the room on this forum but…a Michael Jackson stan of all people judging Gaga and David Bowie is…interesting. 2 1

Kelly was very well known for being a creep when Gaga worked with him. I remember the piss tape thing was widely discussed but then he wasn't condemned at the trial and every music star under the sun kept calling him for a feat or his songwriting as if it was just him really not knowing she was underaged. Not saying that going deep you couldn't already see a pattern before DWUW but it was essentially gossip medias giving rare clues back then and Aliyah laughing at the rumors about them so... In 2012 I would have invited him on a track myself without a thorough investigation to discover the lesser known points and connect them... 2 hours ago, PartySick said: It's a huge part of the reason she wanted him on the song about rumors and the media twisting the truth. She probably based herself on the trial thinking he had been left free therefore was unfairly accused etc making him perfect for this song topic. TheOriginalOne 10,254
Gotta love the rewriting of history to paint Katheryn as a poor victim at the end of the day, Katy is a mean girl that was defeated by another mean girl and then attempted to stage several comebacks with bad music. gemein3 1,234
I love the argument being thrown around about Luke being an “alleged” rapist, abuser, etc… Yes, perhaps he is innocent, great — but creating a women’s empowerment song with that baggage is immoral and 100% on Katy Perry for moving ahead.
Phaye Monster 8,712
I don’t think people wanted to hate on her just for hate’s sake but because she betrayed Kesha, someone she deemed a friend, to work with her abuser not once, but several times, and even after the justified criticism she had no defence but “well I worked with him on Teenage Dream”. I liked Katy through her cringe era and I listened to Smile a lot, she’s got bops, but she’s 100% lost me with this. I can respectfully say I’m disappointed in her without it just being vile hatred of everything she is. and before anyone “but Gaga worked with R *****!!!” Like okay so you agree? Working with abusers is bad? Ga’s very aware of the mistake she made in a time of poorly handling her own trauma, and when faced with criticism she put out a statement apologising for the collaboration and recognising it was wrong and harmful, removed the song from streaming services + future physical releases and showed public support for his victims (who in return said they respected what she did). There’s a right way and a wrong way to handle these things, and at least Gaga never just said “well I worked with him on ARTPOP” and ignored it. But these are also two different situations and I don’t think a comparison is fair, just the handling of criticism is notable. I'm an ARTPOP bitch, baby

moonsago 7,285
I’m afraid she’s done… it’s not just her but her team too, they are truly delusional. They refuse to understand why she received hate which is that man and the fact that 143 is basic, generic and boring. Was the hate excesive? Sure, but NOT unwarented. Two completely different things.
