Abracadabra should have been the lead single

Nah, Disease was a great sacrificial promo single (lead or not, since DWAS exists :huntyga:), and it will have a nice boost when the album is out since it's the 1st track on the album. Disease hyped fans for the next single and album, now Abra is hyping GP for the album :queenga:

Why must we always have these discussions? Does it really matter, especially when Abra is smashing and Disease was overshadowed by DWAS and JFAD-Flop? I think if Abra were released in October instead of Disease it would have done the same as Disease honestly.

I wouldn’t change anything because I think it was the perfect introduction and I wouldn’t wanna risk the success Abracadabra seems to be having now :nick: plus I feel like a successful second single increases the chances of more singles down the road

I think Abracadabra works perfectly as a counterpart for Disease, both musically and video-wise. I’m glad she got everything planned and she’s actually following the plan regardless of chart positions

I assume a MV for Vanish Into You must be in the works as well

Disease was the right choice to introduce us to Mother Mayhem & the sound/world of the album

Idk, I think the timing had to be right for Abracadabra, the era feels like it’s been building to this. I’m good with it not being the lead

I think it worked out the way that it is now. Disease is still a favorite and this song is even better. All the songs from mayhem are sooooo good. I know this will be a favorite album of mine. When chromatica came out and the first single was stupid love I wasn’t too sure if I’d like the album. This is good from the start! Can’t wait for a tour!

I LOVE Disease, and I still prefer it over Abracadabra, but it's a very close 2nd. I feel like if was the other way around the same thing would have been said. For me both songs are the best Gaga songs since ARTPOP. I haven't been this excited for new Gaga music in so long. I liked Chromatica, but looking back at it now, I feel I forced myself to like the album and Stupid Love more than I really did.

Abracadabra is her greatest of all time

But I would not have wanted the joker 2 backlash to have interfered with Abra’s spotlight.

disease was a smart sacrifice.

edit: that being said- I would’ve also been okay with her just doing joker, releasing DWAS and harlequin, then staying quiet till dropping abracadabra during the Grammys and having that be the beginning of mayhem era. Making it the albums lead . And then including DWAS as a bonus track

No, it's better to have a song smash closer to album release. Not that I care about that or anything :ohwell:

Agreed. I know that a lot of Monsters love ‘Disease’ but it didn’t really do anything. Partly, I’m sure because Gaga was overexposed at the time. ‘DWAS’ was taking the charts by storm, there was ‘Joker’ which flopped but still was heavily promoted until it wasn’t. We also got ‘Harlequin’. As a monster myself I felt like I needed a break from Gaga. (Don’t hate me for saying that). I’ve said it before, and I stand by it. The era really should’ve started in Feb, and get its own spotlight. No matter what was released in Oct it would’ve been overshadowed. But now knowing ‘Abra’, the era really should’ve started with this song. Just imagine if we knew nothing about the era, and the song dropped unannounced during the Grammys the way it did and at the same time Gaga announced ‘Mayhem’ and the pre-order started that very night. That would’ve broke this site, and made such an impact. With ‘Disease’ it was such a non-event, to the point where I kind of pretend it didn’t happen.  It’s more of a fourth single type of song to me.

Disagree

Same.

Theres no way to know how it would of taken off back in October with DWAS still rising and overshadowing it and then Christmas freeze around the corner

Tbh if they had known DWAS was grow this large and have this much longevity it may have made sense to just wait until after Christmas freeze for new single but they couldnt have known

Im not overly bitter about it. We got a massively successful 2nd/3rd single going into album and with any luck Disease will get some resurgence anyway.

I wouldnt change it because theres no way to know exactly if the outcome would have been better. It could have actually been worse for all we know

I still prefer Disease and it's the song that deserved Bad Romance / Born This Way level of success but it is what it is. Abracadabra is incredibly dancey, did not expect it to be like that but love it too.

I feel the exact same way. I adore Disease and I would have expected it to be the bigger hit than Abracadabra

Tho again DWAS still rising and over shadowing it plus its release so close to Christmas freeze didnt help

But either way im happy either way we got another smash on our hands whether it be disease or Abracadabra

This

next to Abra- disease doesn’t feel single worthy in the slightest- nor does it feel like an opening track. It just gives track number 6 gives . Non single
