vitoburrrito 624 Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 I personally think more could have been done marketing-wise to make Disease a Halloween smash but also the fact that she was simultaneously promoting Joker, Harlequin, and DWAS was probably a bit too much exposure without a clear focus on any one particular thing. I don’t care about how exactly Gaga charts anymore even though I always wish Gaga success. Luckily for her I guess DWAS ended up being a way bigger song than maybe anyone anticipated, even if it’s mostly due to Bruno. But I think she’s at a point where she is fine not being number one, so long as it isn’t treated like an abject failure if she doesn’t get a number one. I don’t think Gaga is in the same predicament as Katy tbh because even if LG7 flops, at least it’ll flop because it just isn’t trendy whereas KP flops precisely because she tries too hard to be trendy. The song has the same vibe as Bloody Mary and was released around Halloween. But I think the goal was for it to only be a viral Tik Tok song. If it wasn’t, then the other issues are obvious. Nycboy 971 Posted January 15 Share Posted January 15 I agree with your point that in general lead singles aren’t a guaranteed smash because people have much more choice in what they want to stream, and streaming dictates which songs are chosen as singles rather than the other way around. That said, some lead singles still do smash, and the fact that Disease underperformed really indicates to me how fickle the GP is about Gaga. They definitely tune in for her collabs, they stick around for her emotional ballads, but idk, I think they’re not really into full-on “gaga” Gaga? Ever since Applause, has a popGa or a darkGa song really resonated with the GP? It’s a shift that I started to notice when nobody paid attention to GUY as a single over 10 years ago for no reason (great song, great video). Yea, Stupid Love and ROM were successful on the charts due to first week hype, but they were in and out. I’ve never heard those songs on the radio and the GP is largely unaware of them. I agree. I believe we confuse them with theories about "dark pop etc". The dark aesthetic was always on point without extra try (Alejandro video, Born this way, , the car scene of marry the night, and here n there very often in a very good taste) but this time it was very pretentious and without nice aesthetic (wtf with that black teeth n the black vomit?) the only worst aesthetic i can remember on her career was Dop Drills 😭. On the other hand, I don't wanna be that negative, the video had some nice moments (the dark room with the beautiful ray of lights and the cinematic outside chaotic still from afar) but the whole dr plaque look for me was MEH And believe me, i m one of them that dark gaga is my favourite gaga.
