Announced today, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” the upcoming Costume Institute show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will take the Black dandy as its subject, examining the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora.

It’s the first Costume Institute exhibition since 2003’s “Men in Skirts” to focus exclusively on menswear.

That's great. Another bourgeois appropriation of a fashion style that emerged from a complex context of social vulnerability and oppression of the poorest and most discriminated, co-opted by the upper class as a set of "vibes" in an event completely disconnected from the social problems outside

Bruh tbh this may be the worst theme. You could tell they’re trying to pander to the men who attend, who usually have the least exciting fashion. This may be the most basic MET YET.

i can already see it.

The girls will wear suits, or dresses made out of deconstructed suits.
The girls may wear a lot of Mcqueen or comme de garcon. Theres probably gonna be so many bedazzled suits.

the guys will just wear basic suits, some may explore with different cuts and colors and shapes but 90% will probably wear a black suit or some super expensive tailored jackets.

Ok, I’m happy to see the representation, but what are they doing behind the scenes to actually help black and POC in the real world? Also, as per usual, men will still just wear a black suit and the women will be the ones serving and carrying.
