I can see that Traditional pop vocali album nomination coming. Bookmark me I think she should get a grammy nod in the category you mention, its a good album. But here's the thing - critics are discussing the artistic value of any release, or at least are supposed to. Fans absolutely can and should be happy enough that Gaga put an album out because she liked it and wanted to. Critics are naturally going to ask what does it add to her catalogue. And given its an album of covers that cover songs she's singing on a soundtrack out next week, I can understand why they're a little bit confused. And tbh I don't think Gaga needed to prove she can sing Jazz without Tony. She has solo Jazz songs on both C2C & L4S and had a very popular Jazz vegas residency. Her big band credentials already exist.

But look at Cheek to Cheek, it has 64 on metacritic, still it won a Grammy https://www.metacritic.com/music/cheek-to-cheek/tony-bennett. Similar stuff happened to Love for sale. What I think she's doing now is going on on the path she successfully built with Tony in a new and interesting way. I also think she authentically wants to sing both pop songs and more traditional/jazz ones over her career and that's it. You see, she's been underlining even recently that she's all these different things at one. And that's the clear representation of it

Take Smile for example. Charlie Chaplin wrote it, and he was probably the first to record it (I don't know), but does that mean nobody else should record it ? And when somebody else does record it, why stop at two ? Why not 102 ? They'll all be different. This so much!!! Why is it an album full of covers? Because she wanted and period. Review the music and not the 'need' of it ffs
Bowman 7,912
I’m gonna be honest, I think Harlequin is not really an album I’m gonna keep playing, I don’t feel disappointed in what we have as it was a nice surprise for us and it’s nice to know Gaga is in a good place, but it’s not really my cup of tea. I’m someone who hates musical theatre and some of the songs feel like that with the way she sings, I’m not really a fan of the jolly jazz stuff and I can’t take it seriously, I just find some moments a bit cringe. The thing is I love Jazz but the type of Jazz Gaga does I don’t vibe or connect with. I like stuff that has an edge with some soul, some funky layers, I’d like more music similar to Look What I Found. Happy Mistake, Smile and World On A String are my standouts though! We seem to get these types of albums with cover songs inbetween her pop albums, so if that keeps Gaga happy then obviously that’s great. I just think Gaga is suited to her pop roots. I really want Gaga to go all out on LG7 with experimenting more with music. I’m soooo excited for the movie and LG7 single !! Maybe being in such a happy moment in her life, she might have realized that it's not so important to prove she can do this or that, but rather to do what she wants most or believes is right at a given moment, regardless of whether it directly aligns with a professional arc This was an official message from the Office of the First Lady.
