I would put a few eggs in that basket simply because of Roe v Wade. She really needs to ride codifying abortion rights into law.

Will vote for the cop if she’s the nominee.   Her VP choice will sway me from “meh” to motivated (aside from fear of a second T***p term).

Overall, seems like a better chance than Biden and cool to possibly see a female prez of color

I have mixed feelings about this.

For one, the Dems absolutely just bullied their sitting president into giving up his bid for a second term. I still believe Biden is and was capable of doing the job he's been doing and history will look back at the Democratic party as the clown car it is for ditching their CURRENT PRESIDENT because he performed poorly in a debate and is 80 while his opponenthas the same problems only with a side of felonies and a history rife with abuse and crime. Ridiculous and shameful. A deeply unserious political party.

That said, I'm thrilled Harris is the presumptive nominee. Iirc, she was my second choice in 2019 (behind Warren) and she's only become more seasoned and experienced since then.

She gets to run on Biden's platform without Biden's baggage and that's a definite win.

And I know identity politics are less and less relevant to anyone who isn't already voting for Trump but the black community, especially black women, are the heart and soul of the Democratic party. With the proper application of outreach and the right VP, Harris could retain Michigan, Pennsylvania, and maybe even Georgia if they step up the ground game enough to convince black voters to get out and vote.

Ultimately, the pros outweigh the cons.

Do you think Biden could've really beaten Trump at this current stage though? If Trump being a felon mattered more than Biden being 80 and doing poorly in the debate, Trump would be dying in the polls right now. 

I couldn't see any way he could've overcame the "too old and not capable anymore" sentiment. Hell I was working at a gala dinner for sports last week (so nothing political) and even the presenters there were taking shots at Biden and his age/the debate.

Nah, the right-wing media say that about literally every Democratic presidential candidate, meaning it as a negative. They play games with the numbers to arrive at their conclusions.

But... I was dismayed to see a commentator already saying that Kamala would need to "moderate her positions" for the general election. **** that noise.

I have not seen this level of unity in the Democratic party genuinely since the Obama era. She’s gotten an endorsement from all 50 sitting Democratic state chairs and raised $50 million in less than a day. 

Black women especially are all in. Never forget it was a black woman who won us Georgia in 2020. That is a demographic of voter that will work hard and tirelessly until the wire to move the needle. 

Harris has this momentum in addition to being able to claim all of this administration’s successes while also distancing herself from it’s failures. 

I’m sorry but I cannot and will not take the doomerism seriously. This is a really powerful moment and if we take home a win in November, it will be because of today. This level of unity is nearly unprecedented in the modern Democratic wing.

Obama is never quick to do this. He has consistently since leaving office been near the last or the least to comment on something or get involved. Which on his part is smart. He knows what his stature as a former President brings with any statement he makes. 

He will endorse her when she secures the nomination. Until then he will be quiet like he typically is.

Like I was saying earlier, he will. Obama typically is late to do things like this. He prefers to wait until things settle a bit before he tosses his hat in for anything. He was late to endorsing Biden and was late to joining the conversation about him stepping out of the election as well.
