This should be fun when it opens officially this weekend. context: this movie is not marketed as musicals. The trailers trying to hide this fact. The first trailer for The Color Purple was fantastic with the song being built up from the beginning. Even the ASIB first trailer with the iconic long note, it was so captivating. They know that most people do NOT like musicals, so they promote it as a regular film and deceive everyone in order to get them into the theater. I was fully aware it was the Broadway Musical version, but most of the people who are going to see it aren't and I can see why they'd be annoyed.
