That’s really weird to say Having a child is NOT mandatory, not a right, is something you CHOOSE to have, if you want to. Some women can't have a child, as well as gay couples, and in those cases there's the option to adopt a baby. Having a baby via surrogate presents two really big ethical problems: in the first place, people usually defend having a baby this way because they want a "baby of their own" wich implies a really weird take of adopted babies being less of a child to their parents just because of DNA, as if having a baby look somewhat like you was the ultimate aim of having a baby in the first place. Weird and wrong. Secondly, you are treating a womans body as a baby maker factory for money. There have been many cases already of rich couples going to third-world countries and having a surrogate over there because it's cheap and people over there need their money. Women should NOT feel the need to ever sell a part of their bodies for money. It's completely different if you have a surrogate on a friend of yours or someone that really loves you and decides to carry your baby for the sake of love, but making it a whole industry is wrong and as always, poor people end up at the back of the bus. It's the same as why can't we sell our organs for money, or a limb even if we wan't to. That's illegal as a way of protecting people's integrity with respect. I'm so glad this thing is prohibited in pretty much every European country. If you can't have a baby, adopt it. Just as if a friend wants to carry your baby because they love you. That's fine. But that's not the case in 99% of the times, and it's a really hard thing to prove. The same goes with other already unethical industries as prostitution or human hair wigs production. I'm sure there are women out there that work as prostitutes because they love it and they feel empowered, or women that grow out their hair to be 20 inches long and then have it all cut at the scalp because they love that, but that's NOT the usual case. People take advantage of these industries and it's always woman in third world countries that end up doing whatever just for money, wich is unethical. Selena Gomez had an organ transplant and receive that organ from a friend. That's fine. What if Selena had that same organ but bought it from a random woman in Ukraine? That would be wild and unethical. People CAN'T sell their organs because some people would do it for the need of the money, even if someone wanted to sell their organs just for holistic reasons. A big part of me thinks she would want to be pregnant herself with her child but then given how much her work is like her child as well she may not want to risk putting her body through a pregnancy given her health issues so I can see how the choice to use a surrogate would be appealing.
