I really love ARTPOP dont get me wrong. But why is it the most iconic/talked-about one?

I mean yes one album has to do the job but.. why ARTPOP.

Fame and the Fame Monster were her most succesful ones

Born this way is the fan favorite

Joanne may be the floopiest compared to the others but I think its the most personal album and the era was a hard slay (superbowl)

Chromatica gave the gays what they deserved and was a diamond for people to dance though covid time.

So what made ARTPOP that iconic if it wasnt her most successful, the fan favorite, most personal album? Why do you think we and other fan bases are talking about it so much and even anticipate ACT 2? Whats the phenomenon behind it.

As far as iconic, it still does not come anywhere close to everything that came before it. Sorry.

On the other hand, it’s “infamous”.”

The Fame Monster and Born This way outperform it in terms of iconicness too, I'm not sure what makes you say its the most iconic :laughga:

Maybe because it had a lot of infamous moments like the Swine vomit performance or some interviews where Gaga (I think?) was high as a kite. I don't think many people beyond pop stans remember that compared to how anyone would remember the highs of TFM/BTW

It's her worst album and era lol. If you want to see something truly iconic go see TFM/BTW.

While not alot are fans of Joanne, people still respect that album. While ARTPOP is hated, mocked, misunderstood, and had alot of controversy around it.

I say this as ARTPOP biggest fan, its one of my all time favorite albums ever, and my favorite from Gaga.

the reason why ARTPOP is being talk about by these youtubers/fans was because the DRAMA that surrounds it NOT the music itself.

its so easy to create an interesting CLICKBAITish title about ARTPOP

"lets revisit Lady Gaga's most divisive reocord"

"ARTPOP: gaga's flop album"

"lady gaga's flop ERA..ARTPOP"

"R.Kelly and the controversy behind the song Do What U Want from Lady Gaga's messy era ARTPOP"

It was heavily targeted negatively by the media, the public and fans, and even then it's still being discussed a whole decade later. The public perception of the era has changed completely ever since. ARTPOP IS the album that started the "flop" discussion trend. The evolution of the whole era is something that deserves to be discussed, especially how she managed to twist the negative perception of the public not too long after and revived her entire career, something many other artists have tried and failed terribly to do.

It's not entirely about the music, it's about how she fell but recovered flawlessly not too long after, evolving into the artist that we know today.

Another reason is a lot of the talk is being done by many gen z-ers who were too young to enjoy the era back then.

Something something idk

I'd say it's her most controversial/divisive album.. but it's because she did so much during that time! So many completely different looks, the first time she did pop and jazz side by side, the flying dress, the bubble dress, artRAVE was an incredible show, she was actually planning to go to fricken space and be the first person to perform in space, the music was so different and unexpected from her, she was really active online and in the community, she really started speaking up about drug and alcohol addiction, it was the first time the gp really started to appreciate her vocals because of her jazz stuff, the album and visuals were just so bright and vibrant but also dark and very in your face but also just so crazy in the best way (the whole goddess of love shtick, The Muppets special, the massive wig that kept growing)... etc etc. It was just very busy

Then you can focus on all the 'broken promises' and lack of music videos etc, but it just is what it is. That's how things panned out due to unforseen circumstances behind the scenes. What we did get was a lot of fun! And if we knew then how quiet and subdued she would be now in 2023 I think we would've been a lot more appreciative back then

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Honestly as a project ARTPOP is, or was supposed to be, a culmination of the journey from her first three albums. It was a big dance party, laced with songs about sex and love (like The Fame), but it also has an edge similar to Born This Way and touches on material you’d expect on something like The Fame Monster. Especially as we look at her career now, ARTPOP marks sort of the end of that “pop star” era. It was her final hoorah in a sense (before prioritizing other projects), and it was ideally going to be grand.

it really isn't... it's the only Gaga album and era that underperformed and fans are making unrealistic legends about it

Chromatica Island

It's my personal favorite, but a lot of people don't like it sadly.
