Lizzo's Special is the highest-charting album released by woman this year

Lizzo achieves her highest-charting album on the Billboard 200 as her latest studio effort, Special, debuts at No. 2 with 69,000 equivalent album units earned. Of that sum, album sales comprise 39,000; SEA units comprise 28,000 (equaling 37.07 million on-demand official streams of the set’s tracks) and TEA units comprise 2,000.

Special is the highest-charting album released by a woman this year, and it also launches with the largest week, by units earned, among all albums released by women in 2022.

Special is Lizzo’s second top 10-charting effort on the Billboard 200, following Cuz I Love You, which peaked at No. 4 in 2019.

Let's hope the inevitable smash 2 Be Loved carries this WONDERFUL album to longevity and lore as Applause did for ARTPOP, and Dark Horse did for Prism.

btw it was chart dated January 8 but for tracking week: 24-30 December, 2021. a week later (31 Dec-6Jan) Adele was at #2 and then there was no female album in the top2 for months.

I'm so happy for Lizzo. I hope this new album can reach platinum. Ready 2 Be Loved can also be a big hit for her as well as the title track Special. We need someone like Lizzo in our face otherwise society will continue to make fat bodies invisible in media.

That’s actually tragic that a woman hadn’t hit let alone #1, but number 2 this year so far. What is our culture doing giving all these rappers talking about sex, violence, drugs, and literal crimes (murder, rape, etc.) the limelight while also getting offended about everything under the Sun
