Scientists have been able to adjust mirror angles to correct for the damage resulting in no decline to output but the damage is there to stay This is the 6th detected collision James Webb already experienced a collision with a micrometeoroid in it's short time in service but it is the most severe one so far Scientists knew there would be a higher risk of collisions with James Webb than Previous telescopes because its orbit is so much further from Earth Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Trying to see further into space to find the earliest galaxies is cool but I see absolutely no benefit for our society in a few pretty pictures. If resources devoted to experiments and learning more were not spent everytime there was problems left to solve on earth that could also use resources... We'd never advance at all Discoveries in time can lead to other discoveries or understandings that have practical applications directly or indirectly For example who would have guessed that massive hydron colliders that cost billions in combination with other theory work and other experiments would help us learn about particles and the quantum world in a way that has helped us now start to learn how to build quantum computers...
