Cancel Culture seems awful, these poor transphobic people who have to deal with this :huntyga:

Imagine thinking he’s still transphobic and still not watching the special that got him dubbed a transphobic 😂

Imagine being a Rihanna fan having to wait like 4 years for Anti then she takes another 6 years and then having to sit through the pregnant era. :madge:

Even if he isn't,  this pro-anti terf debate is non-sense so him feeding it was sad...

I thought it would stay in the fox news and co sphere but he brought this transphobic debate to new audiences sadly...

The point of him throwing that joke in there was literally to get people to tune in. The underlying message of that special was empathy. If he can grab your attention then he’s done his job. You can call him transphobic but you certainly can’t base that opinion off of the special everyone is complaining about.

Watched it. He was transphobic and used a dead trans person to deflect any accusations of being transphobic. Daphne was one of the "good" trans people, because she idolized him and defended him. He was also homophobic in the special too. His only salient jokes were about race, and those were peppered with disdain for the LGBT+ community because he primarily views gay-ness and trans-ness as white minorities. "Gay people are an minorities until they need to be white again."

He thinks he's not transphobic, so therefore people calling him transphobic are wrong. Which shows a lack of the empathy he claims to espouse. Instead of examining why people might view him as transphobic, he terminates those thoughts with cliches like "I have trans friends who are dear to me" and "they're just trying to cancel me." He does the same thing with the idea of him "punching down," he finds ways to terminate any critical thought of such a claim with "my trans friend said I don't ever punch down, I just punch lines." Its willful ignorance so he doesn't have to take responsibility for his "jokes."

I guess we came away from special with 2 vastly different opinions. And as for the line “gay people are minorities until they need to be white” is very accurate and can be said for all white passing minorities. We all saw how up in flames white gay twitter with the BLM movement. We even saw how people were against it here until Gaga hopped on. All I got from that special was he targets everyone. The lgbtq community is allowed to get joked on just like the rest of us minorities. Nobody is exempt. At least in my opinion

There is a difference between being in on the joke and being joked at. When he jokes about race, he is very much in on the joke because he has firsthand experience of being a racial minority. His jokes about the LGBT+ are not made in the same light. I have not seen his empathy or compassion for the LGBT+ community. His story about Daphne is all about how he befriended her despite her transness. Otherwise, he has shown contempt. He admits to his own jealousy towards the LGBT+ movement. His jokes aren't made with love, to say "ain't that right gay people?" No, they're made with anger, as if to say "ain't that some dumb bullsh*t." That's nothing to say that his jokes about the LGBT+ community were hacky and lacked originality or wit.

So unless you’re a part of a certain community you can’t make jokes about them since you haven’t had firsthand experience? I don’t agree with that sentiment but I can understand how feeling that way would make his special come off terrible. But again we just disagree on the matter. I hate throwing this car but the few and I mean very few friends I have who are black and trans understood what he meant when he said “you’re a minority until you’re ready to be white again” but we just disagree on the matter.

I'm sorry if that's what you inferred. No, I'm saying he shouldn't make jokes about the LGBT+ community because he has no empathy or understanding for them. His jokes aren't aimed to include queer people, they're aimed to make fun of them.

I have no problem with the fact that he wants to critique the idea there are queer people with the privilege of being white, what I have a problem with is his lens of only viewing queer people with that idea in mind. He equates queerness with being white, and therefore, a group who's oppression is lesser or even nonexistent.

The way I view what he said is that the white lgbtq community can just “flip the switch” so to speak and go back to being white and not deal with it. Which is true. How can he have no understanding when he has seen firsthand what the lgbtq community go through? This has always been my own personal opinion, as long as you (not you) are siding with the oppressed and have an understanding of what they go through, you get a “pass” to make jokes about it. I’ll let white comedians pass on certain jokes due to their understanding of the culture. Because to craft a joke that isn’t just straight up crude/racist takes an understanding of the culture. Which to me personally Dave Chappelle has. But again we’ll agree to disagree.
