Umm...I don't necessarily buy this. "We asked him to leave, he said 'no', so rather than have security escort him out we invited him back on stage to accept an award" :laughga:

The statement makes them look like absolute morons.

There's a hundred things they could've done, and they basically did nothing. Now they're trying to save face, it's ridiculous.

Well to be honest they probably didn’t want to cause any scene and the commercial breaks are not that long so they didn’t really have enough time to do it off camera so they were like “okay let’s leave him”

I agree with you. They would have had to really pivot when it came to his winning category. Logistically messy. Also - why haven’t they done anything meaningful yet? This statement was weak.

Personally, I'm tired of people whining about this and saying that we need to move on. If you're sick of hearing about it then stop coming into threads talking about it and complaining about it on social media.

Obviously, this isn't the most important thing going on in the world right now, but it IS important to hold people accountable, especially those who have tremendous global influence. Will Smith literally assaulted someone on live television in front of millions of people. If we simply drop it and let it go, what does that say about how we expect people to act towards others they disagree with?? What does that say about how we hold rich and famous people vs. regular people accountable for their actions?? If a random member of the audience slapped Chris Rock imagine how drastically different this situation would've been handled. Believe it or not, we as a modern society have the capability to care about multiple things at once and hold multiple people accountable for their shi*ty actions at the same time.

We aren’t perfect. He apologized. Let’s move on.

Strip him of his AMPAS voting rights, bar him from attending ceremonies for a few years. Then let’s move on.

Drama like this is something I expect (and crave :ohwell:) at the VMAs, focusing on the celebrity, the spontaneity, the wackiness of it all. At the Oscars I want it to be about film excellence, and filmmakers.

This years ceremony sucked the soul out of the film aspect- not televising all awards, and Will Smith taking the attention away from ALL of the winners. He discredited his fellow nominees and the entire institution.

I hope the academy will set a precedence and do the right thing.

The Academy: Please leave.

Will Smith: Nah I’m good.

The Academy: Ok. Here’s an Oscar.

The idea that anyone would react that way over a roast as mild as being compared to a fierce warrior of a woman, is complete batsh*t nonsense, and I'm not convinced that this wasn't staged.. and the oscars is a stage of performance art and culpable supportive arrogance.

If Chris Rock is over it, and Will Smith is over it, maybe people 100% unaffected by a rich guy slapping a rich guy once at an award show for rich people just need to get over it.

I think it's not over. It was an act of violence on TV and everybody is talking about it. It's the perfect situation to not normalize these acts and show people you can't get away with it

The old times of Sidney Poitier and Cary Grant truly are over… no more class and no more make believe. I think in today’s world glamour is starting to become meaningless and celebs now look ridiculous

I mean most people saying "let's move on" write an essay on it afterwards. 😂

So he refused and they went like „uhm yuh, at least we asked“ ?? :laughga:

That proves they have not planned with such a situation, which shows yet again how privileged celebs are if there isn‘t even an in house security concept?

I mean this never happened before right? They probably assume their attendees would be well behaved like they used to.

we should not move on. He should face sanctions and condemnation for his actions. Not just “ let’s move on “ after three days…

You can clearly see actors and actresses who Are a Match to stars of golden age of Hollywood in our age and others who in my opinion downgrade the Oscars with their behaviour, acts, clothes,,,
