I don’t accept “it was a joke!!” about mean spirited comments. Alopecia or not, it’s rude to make someone’s appearance a joke. (Also it’s extremely lazy comedy, like common)

That said Will’s violent outburst and then “I’m a vessel of love that must protect women” defence is toxic masculinity at its finest.  No excuse here

Whatever the case, Will’s wife was not in physical harm; therefore it did not require a physical response. 

Was the joke insensitive? Maybe. 

Does this give Will the right to physically assault someone on national television? No 

How anyone can defend Will is beyond me. All he had to do was have a conversation with Chris afterwards about it. 

And please, let’s not forget that Will’s initial reaction was to laugh until he saw his wife roll her eyes. To me it seems like he did a 180 to prove a point that he could defend his wife, but not because he actually felt that way.

Chris Rock. And it ain't close. Assault for a stupid joke? By a comedian who's paid to tease an audience? Nope. No excuses. It was rude, smug, a crime, and completely unwarranted. 

Will Smith did it, and will get away with it, because of his unfathomable arrogance and insane privilege. 

And the fact so many are defending Will - when they wouldn't defend just about anyone else? It means he'll carry on acting exactly the same way. Because why wouldn't he? No accountability. None.

Even his horrible speech where he justified his assault by saying "god and love" made him do it? Please. Typical abuser excuses. Self-indulgent nonsense.

It's not being shamed, and that wasn't the point.

The point was she has a fairly common condition that has only one effect:  some hair falling out.  And unlike an obese person, if she was really bothered by it, she could have worn a wig.  

Being compared to GI Jane isn't the worst.  

Not a great joke, the fact is that women's hair is put on some weird pedestal, but really - is it such a horrible thing that she can't be like the rest of the hollywood elite who are joked about for some similar appearance issue?  

She's not disfigured, she'd not hideous, she's not a monster. She's just lost some of her hair and she's still beautiful.  

You could make a point it was over the line or uncalled for, but you can't defend going on a stage and acting violent then going back to the table and acting scary.  For the honor of her - heaven forbid - her HAIR!!!! HER HAIR!!!!

Jada isn't responsible for the jokes Will has made in the past and you trying to justify Chris' comments by mention them here is just humorous. 

Also I absolutely agree that she looks amazing and confident but that's just what we see on the outside, we have no idea what is going on inside her head.

There was even a sound effect as the blow was being given, at least to my ears. Chris whether joking or not was even saying how its greatest tv or wtv. Oscars needed ratings and buzz. They once were prestigious but seems like they wanna take the VMA route with shock value.

It 100% wasn't staged honey. No way in hell will the Oscars allow something like this to happen on live air. You can tell Will was genuinely angry and his swearing would not be allowed if it was staged.
