Anderson123 42,656
Back in 2020 one of my friends who works at a hospital said that this is one of those virus that 90% of population will have at some point in their lives. When we all got vaccines I thought that number would've gone way down but woah this Omicron variant is really spreading through the whole world pretty fast. I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being true that most people on Earth get COVID at some point in their lives. I'm just glad Omicron got here AFTER we got vaccines because imagine the world crisis if it happened back in 2020 omfg.
Luc 4,776
To be honest they're not wrong. But Omicron is really shaping up to be less deadly. It feels like the final wave and final lockdown to me. I'm mostly scared for eastern europe, where a lot of people refuse to get vaccinated and where governments are not capable of implementing lockdowns. I've heard stories of clubs in Ukraine staying open during total lockdowns because the (co-)owners had contacts with politicians.

Oyster 2,458
Honestly, unless you’re an old person or are high risk, I think the anxiety over COVID should diminish. At this point, it seems almost inevitable to catch it. Once the majority of people do get it, that is when shared immunity can build and the virus can become like a common flu. People should definitely get boosters. In my personal experience, I was boosted and got COVID shortly after and it was nothing. I do think vaccines and boosters are incredibly effective at mitigating the symptoms. But my main point is that COVID anxiety should calm a bit. Yes the healthcare systems are overwhelmed and a lot of that is due to people not getting vaccinated. But I have friends who are so terrified of just leaving the house and are so anxious about this that their mental health is completely in shambles. I have little siblings who have no passion to learn anything and are depressed because they’re not around other kids at school. It looks like this virus is going to keep mutating against vaccines, I mean that’s just Darwin right there. Get boosted get vaccinated yes. If you’re old or high risk, maybe don’t leave the house. But if you’re relatively young and healthy, I just don’t think it makes sense to be so anxious about it anymore. It’s gonna be hard not to catch it and like what… are you going to avoid it for 10 years? That’s my time.

You’re right but negative news is what gets people to click and means more money for media conglomerates so expect to see scaremongering for the next month at least. I've heard stories of clubs in Ukraine staying open during total lockdowns because the (co-)owners had contacts with politicians. This is the same for the Balkans, if you’d ask me. Most of the clubs aren’t closed (even though you need to get tested or vaccinated to get in) in Bulgaria. Almost everything is still open and the only difference are the restrictions for unvaccinated persons. At New Years Eve, there was this huge party near the city on a mountain. Most of the people that I know who went there got symptoms or tested positive for COVID. And the thing is, in Bulgaria, we don’t have free testing as in the west where you can get tested with light symptoms. Here, you pay about 25 BGN (€15) for antigen test and about 75 BGN (€37) for PCR test. Mind you, Bulgaria (and Romania) are the poorest country in the EU and this is money that they can’t afford. Also, with money, you can do everything. I’ve experienced enough situations where people wanted me to bribe them. Even the police and court is not that hard to bribe, someone told me that they bribed a courtroom for €1000 (2000 BGN) in order not to get prosecuted. I wouldn’t be surprised if the same as in Ukraine happened as you mentioned in your post. majkl > kitsch
Lucas 31,100
It also means that after the wave, half of Europe will be immunised for a few months. Only thing I'm worry is the amount of new variants there will be in this short time? With covid mutating in half of europe lol
