People are overreacting

So frontline workers saying hospitals are filling up again are overreacting?

There is antiviral drug treatment with 90% efficacy that was approved just yesterday. Booster shots are shown to be 80% effective against Omicron. This hysteria has got to stop. Just get people to get the booster shots and wear masks. We cant be canceling everything forever.

Postponing an award show when many states are reporting health care systems on the brink of collapse is completely rational and not hysterical.

They have just been postponed lol you guys are way too dramatic. All the award shows still happened last year when things were way worse. Nothing will be cancelled, it’ll just be postponed to the warmer months.

The one time Gaga has a genuine shot at AOTY at the Grammys and they’ll probably be shelved :lmao:

The Grammys happened last year though? I remember Cardi and Megan’s performance and Taylor collecting her award.

These live events have got to have contingency plans. Have a zoom show if necessary as a backup, but postponing them already seems hasty. These events are going to be a hassle with new variants but this is the new reality we are dealing with and we can’t live like this for the rest of the 2020s…

It’s not hysterical, but it is an overreaction at this point in time tbh. Awards show are important to the health of the film industry. We can’t postpone everything until the virus is not an issue, because that is such a moving target. These awards shows need to have a Plan B, C, D, E and F nowadays. Postponement just sucks.

And people thought 2022 would be any different from 2021 :rip:

We went to concerts and movies in 2021 tho, so it is different :sis:

My guess is that many of their attendees said they weren't coming anymore. COVID cases are predicted to *possibly* hit nearly 3 million a day in the U.S. around the time of the show (compared to 200,000 a day as an all-time record). Even if it's not the same and delta and just the worst flu you've ever had, I can't imagine very many people signing up for that (or not being sick already and unable to go).

The healthcare system is still incredibly overwhelmed all over the world and they can't afford a superspreader event if things go downhill. It's not only about the show itself, but everything it takes for it to be put together, be it building stages, drivers, artists's makeup and hair teams, etc. The celebrities and organziers themselves are rich and can afford treatments and precautions, but the same can't be said about everyone working for them also.

Award shows aren't essential in any way and they can be moved online if needed. Healthcare workers and less privileged people are a thousand time more important.

Our world is still in the process of building immunity to this virus. There's still reason to be hopeful.

They're postponing the show because they don't want to be BLAMED (or sued) if some of the attendees get sick or die. 🙁

Imagine the headlines if the Critics Choice Awards turns into a superspreading event and some of the world's best film AND TV actors, directors and producers are infected?? Productions are shut down because the lead actor or director is in the hospital?

Nobody says you can't go to the movies.

Country legend Charley Pride DIED on Dec. 12 from coronavirus complications, a month after appearing at the 2020 CMA Awards.

The celebration was held indoors, which has drawn criticism over the possibility that he may have contracted the illness at the event.

The first part of your post is all speculation? We don’t know how bad Omicron will or won’t be, but that’s why these live shows/events need to have contingency plans at this point. It’s been nearly two years. Get it together and have backup plans.
