Adele is accused of plagiarism by composer Toninho Geraes. He composed the song ‘Mulheres’ by Martinho da Vila. According to the artist, Adele plagiarized the track on ‘Million Years Ago’, part of the ’25’ album.
Since the release, the tracks went viral due to the similarity. The composer gathered evidence and is suing the singer for plagiarism. “I was appalled when I realized it. The melody and harmony are the same. It's a blatant copy” commented the composer in an interview with Veja.

In addition to proving the similarity, it is necessary to show that the plagiarist had contact with the work and acted intentionally. Geraes' defense intends to show that Adele became friends with personal trainer Camila Goodis from São Paulo and that producer Kurstin is a researcher of Brazilian music. source

The melody and harmony are so basic and simple though? If it was a blatant copy why has it taken him this many years to sue her. :oprah:

Is he serious? :air:

It's like a painter accusing another painter of plagiarism because they also used the color red :air:

In the words of the late Jackson Maine, "music is just twelve notes" :rip:

The composer is a 60 years old man that doesn't listen to main pop music.

The verse melody does sound similar, but it's not like those are very melodic parts, so sis, it's just coincidence.

They do sound very similar but idk if it's actual plagiarism because the melody (regardless of who's singing it) is very common. Adele is great but it's not like she's particularly unique or innovative herself.

Okay, so that's valid for him, but generally speaking, I see that same statement with almost everyone accusing someone for plagiarism.

They do seem very similar to me :air: idk about music structures but you can clearly hear one song in another and vice-versa.

And before y'all come with the "who" posts, this guy is huge in the MPB (Brazilian Popular Music) community in Brazil. You not knowning about someone =/= they not being popular.

Probably because they are approached by a lawyer who makes them believe they have a case and wants a chunk of the profits.
