Gimme More 35,392
Wow it's officially been 5 years (HALF A DECADE) since Britney last released an album. In August 2014, it was announced that Britney had renewed her record deal with RCA Records and that she was writing and recording new music. The next year, Britney stated that she was gonna do a new album "slowly but surely" but it was not her priority at that moment. Karen Kwak was hired as the album's executive producer and helped Britney find "the most fun people to write with". Kwak wanted to recall the sounds of "In the Zone" and "Blackout" and chose producers based on that. She stated that Britney pursued songs she wanted to do herself and came up with concepts and melodies herself. Britney herself said that she was "being more hands-on" with the album and called it her baby and the best thing she had done in a long time. The last song she recorded for the album was "Love Me Down" in June 2016. Her son picked the album title. It received positive reviews from critics and ended up earning Britney her second highest score on Metacritic. Critics praised the album for its experimentation, Britney's noticeable involvement and even for her vocal performance. Many named it her best work since "Blackout". First-week sales of 111,000 units, making it her 10th Top 5 album in the US. Outside of the US, the album reached #1 in 6 countries and charted within the Top 10 in 21 more countries. The album scored the highest peaks for Britney in years and even new career peaks in some countries. It has sold over 1 million units worldwide. Two singles were released off the album: "Make Me…" featuring G-Eazy and "Slumber Party" featuring Tinashe. "Make Me…" debuted at #17 on the Hot 100, becoming Britney's 20th Top 20 hit on the chart. It reached #1 on the US Dance Club Songs chart and was eventually certified Platinum in the country. The original music video for "Make Me…" was directed by David LaChapelle but was scrapped after Britney's father allegedly thought it was too ****. Her former manager Larry Rudolph claimed that the video "just didn’t work". Scenes from the original video leaked in April, 2019. Britney performed a medley of "Make Me…" and G-Eazy's "Me, Myself & I" at the 2016 VMAs. It was her first performance at the award show in 9 Years. "Slumber Party" became Britney's third consecutive #1 hit on the US Dance Club Songs chart. The song also charted in 6 more countries. Britney met her boyfriend Sam on the set of the "Slumber Party" music video. "Private Show", "Clumsy" and "Do You Wanna Come Over?" were all released as promo singles ahead of the album's release. Last year, the #JusticeForGlory movement helped the album reach #1 on the US iTunes Pop Albums chart and the Top 5 on the Worldwide iTunes Albums chart. To thank fans, the album's artwork was updated with a shot from the album's original David LaChapelle photoshoot. A deluxe reissue was released in December 2020, following the #JusticeForGlory movement. The Japan bonus track "Mood Ring" and two previously unreleased songs were included on the re-release. The artwork featured shots from the original David LaChapelle photoshoot. "Mood Ring" and the two previously unreleased songs "Swimming in the Stars" and "Matches" were released as promo singles for the 2020 re-release. All three songs reached the Top 2 on US iTunes with "Mood Ring" peaking at #1. Source: Exhale Do we think Glory will be her last ever album or there will be more to come? Anderson123 38,454
Glory was such a good Britney album after the terrible Britney Jean and the generic but guilty pleasure Femme Fatale. It is also one of my favorites along with In The Zone, I liked the more mature sound they went for on this one. It's crazy to see that it's been 5 years already and doesn't look like there's another one on the way for at least 2 years, if she gets the freedom she deserves.
