Lorde has said that she’s unfazed by her ‘Solar Power‘ music boxes not being eligible to count towards Billboard chart positions.

She is releasing the record as a music box that contains various collectibles and a digital download of the album with 2 bonus tracks. The move means they won’t count towards the Billboard charts in the US.

Lorde has told The Wall Street Journal that she has “zero anxiety about it”, adding: “But I’m sure there is someone with a spreadsheet somewhere, who can point to the ways in which I’m making less money."

Why doesn’t this count? It’s still an album sale, no? I couldn’t not care less about charts I just don’t get why this is?

That’s interesting - I wouldn’t really view this as a bundle but that’s just me  you would be getting the same stuff if it were a normal CD, if anything this is alternative packaging not a bundle

Didnt Travis Scott’s Tour Bundles cause a fiasco with Billboard (and Nicki Minaj). Thus they changed the rules because they deemed it unfair?

TL;DR- Scott added codes to tour merch and tour merch sold like crazy. Sales loophole blocked albums that week on billboard

Maybe I'm just cynical, but this sounds like an excuse. If Solar Power was inside the top 10 on the Hot 100, she'd be singing a different tune.

Literally just my opinion. You don't think she wanted Solar Power to be a hit at all? What kind of "indie" artist works with Jack Antonoff? I don't buy it, sorry.

St. Vincent also works with Jack Antonoff and she's even less known and "successful" than Lorde. Just because Taylor topped the charts with Jack doesn't mean he doesn't work with indie or less commercial artists. Lorde literally never wrote for the charts and she's clearly said that she doesn't care about them, and I think her music is pretty reflective of that. She wouldn't have released any of the 3 singles from Solar Power if she were aiming for commercial success, nor would she have taken a 4 year hiatus away from everything and everyone. That's literally counterproductive for the charts.

Not this as if Jack Antonoff is to music in 2021 what RedOne was in 2008...
