The right wing have a monopoly on effective slogans. This is because they're simple and could mean anything but are pretty clear what they mean. Example, "Make America Great Again". How to MAGA? Who knows. The end result is clear.

"Defund the Police" is a bad slogan even if the measures it advocates work. Sure it's simple but it's not really what it stands for. "Partially Defund the Police to Increase Funding for Essential Services" isn't so catchy but less toxic.

Same case for how they adopted "Pro Life" which makes them sound like saints when in reality they're "Pro-Forced Birth"

With "Pro Life" as the alternative, its soooooo easy for people to spin "Pro choice" as "pro death/killing"

Propoganda is too effecitve :saladga:

Duh. It was always gonna work, but a lot of people are brainwashed into thinking it would be bad

Never got why police were the onew called for mental health crisis anyway

I had a severe panic attack once on the road and called 911 i was gonna loose it had total breakdown and police are the ones who were dispatched to pick me up and drop off car in some lot and take my keys

Ok they didnt treat me like **** but they are too authoratative in the way they speak to be calming either. I would have prefered a mental health unit handle it

Even when police dont act like trash like in the viral videos for profiling reasons, or racism or just cuz they are jerks etc... Even regular well meaning cops just doing their jobs and stuff goes as well as it can possibly go, some stuff they just arent the best suited for plain and simple

Someone having a nervous breakdown, beubg handled by an authoratative figure with a gun is not whats gonna calm u down :toofunny:

Very misleading thread title.

Yes, it's definitely better for mental health crises. That is not "defunding the police." It is simply not utilizing them for that purpose anymore.

Huh? This is exactly what defunding the police means. Reallocating funds away from police, in order to create better community resources, such as these mental health response teams.

I refuse to say pro-life anymore. I say anti-choice instead :vegas:

Wait why is the old thread placed in the OP? What does one part of defund the police working have to to with what Biden said?

This part of defund the police is an absolute success and needs to continue with even more allocated funds.

But the fact is NY has an increase in violent crime and this year more funds will be going to police departments to decrease violent crimes.

I don't understand why everything has to be skewed one way or the other. For it to be a success or failure.  You take what's good and keep it and you fix the bad in a project like this.

When we do programs like this we learn what works and what doesn't. Yes this works for non violent offenses. It's a wonderful thing. But it's not keeping violent a offenses from happening which is what is growing in NY.

That why defund the police is not working as a slogan. It encompasses too many good ideas that are mixed some that are not so good. This part of defund the police is working and it's great. Keep it. Now what are they going to do about violent crime increasing.

"Nothing in the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity." -Martin Luther King Jr.

Sure but the job of a slogan is to convince people of your agenda... not make them fight it :air: I feel like one of the main problems with leftist activism is that it's too concerned with the ideas and not enough with the execution. Defunding the police and reallocating resources is a great idea, but for it to be implemented nationally it will have to win over the majority of people. We spend too much time calling people trash and not enough trying to find ways to convince them. One will make it easier to implement leftist policies and the other will make it easier for the right wing to demonize the left.

I feel like something along the lines of "Expand Emergency Response" would probably work better. It doesn't have a negative connotation to safety and with Defund the Police established already it could seem like an antithesis even though it means the exact same thing.

Except the police must have lower funds no matter what the population thinks.

So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.

This. Defunding the police sounds like we are just allowing mutiny.

I'm confused. Why call the police for mental health issues at all? What's the extent of what the police can actually do in the US?

I'm waiting to see how this works on actual police stuff
