VasilisVas 5,201
Interesting to see how many people suddenly like this song. When it was released, many in here bashed it.
Ziggy 12,022
needs just a little more room to breathe, but it's great and the video is super underrated.
dynamite 60,315
I love it but it's a bit exhausting towards the end, it feels like it should be over and then she starts going hard all over again Like a poem said by a neydy in red
LaFama 4,665
Was a bop in 2016, remains a bop in 2021. And I really like the video, I love how it keeps adding thing until the end, it fits the ragey/chaotic energy of the song. And I was kinda disappointed the album didnt really follow up that sound. Its not a fedora u f*ck

Cruelty 6,172
It's everything. I think the reaction to it in September 2016 was partly so polarised because it was a total sonic revolution for Lady Gaga (and we haven't really heard anything quite like it from her since). You can hear the invigorating infusion of Tame Impala, but it's lifted into the blossoming soundscape of Joanne by those fiery vocals (seriously one of Gaga's best ever vocal performances), that insistent kick drum, those shimmering 80s synths. The first 15 seconds encapsulate everything that's perfect about this illusion. What better introduction to an era than that first guitar chord slamming into your system? And then quickly the elements coalesce: the hyper-processed scream, the wordless vocal that sounds like it's crying out for help, that glimmering tick-tock-tick-tock synth. Perfect Illusion pulls you into the rapids and drags you along, kicking and screaming, to the bitter end. The whole thing just feels so classy: dark, pulsing verses thumping into frantic choruses, capping off at the glorious Papa Don't Preach-esque synth strings. And on the way... THE KEY CHANGE!!! It continues to scalp me half a decade on; it is simply the best 5 seconds of her discography. Perfect Illusion is a juggernaut of contradictions. The dark side of love, and the sanctuary of music. Being lost in the wilderness, but pulling through it and reflecting. Knowing the treasure is illusory, but wanting it anyway. The old Gaga and this new Gaga, somehow simultaneously sleeker and rougher than before, wielding a microphone like a lasso at a desert rave. Blast it on full volume and let yourself slip away. I remember the sense of anticipation when, suddenly one day, a 3x3 square of technicolour Instagram pictures appeared, advertising a new single. How could we have known what was coming over the hill? A perfect song; a perfect lead; a perfect mini-era (the jean shorts and crop-top look felt so refreshing at the time); a perfect video that completely understood the assignment. A perfect illusion. TL;DR: It was love.
vpez 1,250
I still love it, especially the harsher, rock beat I got so hyped when they posted that snippet A shame I didn't get the chance to see her perform it live, I bet it hits so hard. Just imagining the crowd jumping and shouting IT WASN'T LAAAAV gives me goosebumps. trust is like a mirror, you can fix it if it's broken but you can still see the crack in that ************s reflection. holy scheisse 22,321
Loves it but I do wish the mastering was edited to balance out her voice, and to bring more power to the instrumental. Especially in the bridge, I wanna hear more of those glittery synths tbh
