True. Unfortunately the quality of AHS has gone downhill (and imo faster downhill each season) I guess the departure of Jessica Lange really was the beginning of the end :huntyga:

RM's other shows like Ratched, Hollywood, Fued, etc have definitely been an improvement. So I'm not sure what makes AHS go sour. Perhaps other showrunners are spoiling it.

At any rate, I'll give this one a shot just like every AHS season :bear:

Ratched was quite good, Hollywood had its moments but the gay theme felt so forced and programmatically nasty, like "let's show that side at any costs and let it stretch a story that can be done in four episodes". What makes AHS sour is thay they start writing off a good couple episodes for each season, then go into filming, the writing proceeds while shooting the show and the whole thing ends up rushed to meet the deadlines. If only they wrote the full seasons and reviewed the screenplays prior to filming, they would have been MUCH stronger.

It's that stupid thing they do where they write a half-baked skeleton of a plot and about 3 episodes, then hurry to fill in all the gaps and make an ending that makes sense as they're filming. It's absolutely ridiculous. You can see them setting up possible plot points left right and centre without any real direction, and then throwing half of them away/leaving them unfinished/tying them up really poorly, before throwing together a rushed ending that can feel forced.

It's like starting to knit a scarf with blue yarn, then after a few inches not deciding on a colour so throwing the whole rainbow in there, and by the end deciding you like orange and doing the last 15 inches on orange and calling it a 'creative and unique style', when you could have just planned out a beautiful pattern with nice colours from the start and executed it well and wit clear intention.

Honestly the first three seasons were the best because you could really feel the heart and soul and creativity that they put into developing a really good plot and characters and a story that flows from beginning to end. I remember hating Freakshow because the story was an absolute shambles, and ever since then they've been so hit and miss.

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

It's only cast from episode 1 (still not including everyone as Evan Peters & Taissa Farmiga have been seen on the set from Murder House)

I had no idea that they didn't have AHS completely written before filming :billie:

Why were seasons 1-3 so accessible and the rest have really just been off somehow :messga:

Ryan started spreading himself way too thin, he started doing like 10 projects a year after Coven :rip:

I am tentatively excited for AHStories. Small self contained stories should stop the series going haywire.

I am not as excited about Double Fatigue but we'll see. I liked Roanoke and how it had two stories so hopefully we're on for more of that. Something smaller and snappier is what the main series needs.

Freak Show, Cult and Roanoke are the best seasons.

Yeah that's a big reason too! I feel like there was more passion in the beginning to create something fresh and ground breaking, and now they're just moving through the motions.

Don't get me wrong, I still watch every season, it's just not what it used to be.

Don't even get me started on all the fanservice with the crossovers :smh:   While it was exciting seeing the witches again, it also felt so forced in Apocalypse (which is no wonder people call it Coven 2)

I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.

Apocalypse is my least favorite, the start was so good and promising, then the witches showed up and it went all down to hell

Bradley

These are only the cast for the first 2 episodes.

I'm sure more veterans will be involved in further episodes. Regardless, just because they're new doesn't mean they can't tell a good story. If the writing and directing's good, then everything will be fine.

Dominic

I dont think the quality of writing has necessarily changed over the years of AHS but the style definitely has. It's camp and quirky now rather than horror and grit. It does both well but with a title like HORROR stories, read the room I guess.

I'll give this a whirl, largely because 95% of my programmes have ended now 😅

The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
