I agree, although I ranked it as:

Asylum > Roanoke > Murder House > Coven >Apocalypse > Cult > Freakshow > Hotel > 1984

Really, Apocalypse, Cult, and Freakshow move around a lot between them (although never surpass Coven) and are all seasons I enjoyed. Freakshow is very underrated and I’m not sure why since it serves musical numbers that you’d think would be more appreciated in this kind of forum. Hotel and 1984 were the only seasons I didn’t.

So I ask again :huntyga: what made you dislike Hotel so much?

I don't remember the season enough to tell you. I just remember how I felt about it and how I didn't like it and how I have no desire to re-watch it.

1. Hotel

most underrated season. Not just cuz of Gaga but the entire vibe of the season, vampires being a central theme basically, and just the soundtrack as well. It’s iconic.

2. Asylum

one of the best seasons by far. The multiple twists, the acting, the storyline, all the plot changes, and some of the most iconic scenes.

3. 1984

I called this being the season after apocalypse and I was SO happy with it. By far the best first episode of the entire series aside from Freak Show. A super fun and campy (pun intended) season that wasn’t really taking itself seriously. I do not like the whole Richard Ramirez thing but I can let it slide bc it needed a different villain and he worked wel as one.

4. Freak Show

I cannot express how much I love this season. Somehow there was a villain (twisty) that you loved and felt bad for and then a villain you absolutely loved to hate (dandy) and some of the best acting sequences and music sequences as well.

5. Coven

a really good season, I do just think it tried a liiiiiitttllleee too much and did too much for its own good. Still amazing.

6. Murder House

amazing first season, I just don’t think it pushed the envelope as hard as seasons after so it knocks it down.

7. Apocalypse

Great season but wasn’t really what I expected. I wanted more of an apocalypse and not coven 2.0 but I enjoyed it.

8. Roanoke

amazing season until the last episode

the first few episodes were phenomenal, the switch up was a really fun take, but killing off Sarah Paulson made no sense and then the way they ended it made no sense as well.

9. Cult

do I have to explain why I hate this one. I love that it made fun of both left and right wing extremists but it felt a little too self righteous.

i have a feeling double feature is gonna be too 3 material tbh. The idea of mermaids/sirens and possibly aliens as well makes me wet :staymad:

also the mini Anthology of American horror stories is gonna be fun

For me, the absolute best was asylum. Ever since Cult, I've been consistently let down by this show... But each year I keep hoping for the better.

I also don't get the Freakshow hate, I think the Twisty and Dandy characters were highlights of the entire series.

Twisty made me sad af. “I couldn’t even kill myself” made me nearly cry honestly. Like they screwed that man over.

We have totally different rankings but I love what you said about each season. The soundtrack for Hotel is insane.

That’s the fun about AHS tbh, it’s super subjective.

I remember watching hotel and every single episode had KILLER music. The fact that they played depeche mode alone made me love it.

also I have a sweet spot for Chloe Sevigny :flutter:

New ranking:

1. Asylum

2. Murder House

3. Coven

4. Freakshow

5. Hotel

6. Roanoke

Actually I just finished Roanoke after watching it for the first time. It was as horrible as I thought it would be, actually even worse.

I use to like the other ahs seasons because they were not just creepy but also pretty to look at and they had complex characters. Roanoke is just disgusting and the characters are stupid.

The gore gets more graffic each season, which I'm not a fan of either.

I'm taking a break before I start with Cult, Apocalypse and 1984.

Living for the 1984 praise :applause:It’s hated for no reason. When I said that I hadn’t watched it yet everyone was saying that I would hate it and that it wasn’t good, and it ended up being my 2nd favorite season.

I love the intro and the fashion. Other than that the acting is HORRENDOUS, there's tons of random plots that go nowhere, where's the twists, cliffhangers, and the purgatory thing has been done to death. Even by AHS

(Just my opinion. Like I said, the intro is worth the horrible season)

I think Lily Rabe had the best acting in it

UPDATE: I've now rewatched s 1-3 with my mom (watching Freakshow now) and so far Asylum replaces Murder House as my fav. It really is just so scary and has a lot of political commentary.

Murder House has moved down on my list, not sure where.

Coven, in review, actually has moved down in my list too. It's still one of my favs, but the hunt for the Supreme felt so rushed. The whole race subplot though is very interesting to watch among today's political climate.

Freakshow still has such promising first few episodes...but I remember it took a turn down real fast so I'll update once we finish the season.
