As soon as that happens, even though they have an established fanbase, record labels are going to try to have a new artist on top that makes them money. Artists produce more when they are at the top. I think it's just how the music industry works, sadly. The problem is rap is a genre in which artists create music about how they are better, richer, hotter, have more sex, consume more drugs/alcohol, etc., than others, so of course this genre lives from artists fighting each other. And this shouldn't be a surprise, and probably they don't want to actually fight or actually hate each other, it just makes the money they need to produce to remain valuable to their record label. As soon as they lose that, they know a new artist is willing to do it for the money and the fame... it's just how it works.
