It's not just a lie, she knew what migth've happened and she could tell the truth ANY TIME to her father and police or public, but she prefered to keep with her lie than saving her teacher's life, a person she KNEW PERSONALLY. If you are a immigrant you are totally wrong if you force your values into the new country you are living. Embrace the culture of the country you're living. I am not gonna say "Oh, you can't eat your original country food and have your religion and every thing respected", but you must live according the norms you emmigrated to. If you are immigrant you adapt to your new country and not the oposite. I feel disgusted whenever I see these news of immigrants commiting hate crimes. The tragedy reminds me of “The Children's Hour” from Audrey Hepburn, a child who doesn’t like to go to school lying about two female teachers having affairs, which led to the suicide of one of the teachers.
