Everything That Rihanna Did In 2020 Instead Of Releasing Music

Although technically speaking, Rihanna did release music this year — but let’s not kid ourselves, a 30-second feature on a PartyNextDoor track is no ‘R9’.

2020 has been full of upsets, to say the least, but to top it all off, I really didn’t expect to be writing this article for the third year in a row.

While there are still a few weeks left of the year (and celebrity gossip haven Deux Moi keeps teasing a big surprise release from a popstar), Rihanna hasn’t given any real clues that her long-awaited follow up to her eighth album, 2016’s ANTI, is coming in 2020.

And if bombarding Rihanna’s socials with ‘where’s the album’ was already a meme in 2018, by now, it’s an all-out trolling war. Last December, she joked on Instagram that it was more or less completed and she was “refusing to release it”; in February, she told Entertainment Tonight she was simply serving back what she gets.

“I like to antagonise my fans a little bit,” Rih joked. “Well, they antagonise me, too! So, they get it right back.”

Over the past four years, Rihanna has pushed back ‘musician’ further and further on the multi-hyphenate as her Fenty empire expands further and further, landing her a Forbes-estimated net worth of $600 million. Chatting ahead of her Fenty Savage runway show this October, she hinted that music doesn’t offer the same challenges as being a businesswoman.

In March, Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation donated USD $5 million to various COVID-19 funds.

In April, she matched Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey’s USD $2.1 million donation to provide shelter, food and resources for victims of domestic violence during the COVID-19 lockdown in Los Angeles.

the facts shes not doing something half done. she juggle so many things, and i bet why shes not releasing an album because she cant focus on her music and other business she currently building. imagine she comeback after long time hiatus and flop because she also focus on releasing new business and new collection, because we knew she take a big part of creating and making her products.

a true unapologetic queen. I wonder how tired fans would be if Gaga took all this time without any music nor exciting news. And honestly I wish it happens for SO many reasons. 

First of all I want a life. I want my freedom from this site, from stan culture, from being entertained and diverted at the same time... Idk..... I think that would be healthy to simply live my own life.

Yes. Maybe more into the internet thing in general. I always end up being too angry on twitter or a bit salty towards strangers. It's not this site in particular, I love GGD and so many things, and reading you all is very helpful too. It a little community. But I'm talking about internet in general, and what it does to us. 

I'd love to make it my kind space, and be always kind, but sometimes it also triggers pettiness, saltiness... And I'm sorry for that. I just don't know. Thanks for sharing your feelings  

But I love being a fan of musicians. I think there is something great in it. And also something not very great too, when entertainment becomes a religious war. I'm not into that part of things at all anymore, yet I somehow still feel trapped into something.

finally I think there is an important message in the new Gaga's communication management. We are not fed like we used too. 

To be honest, I think we cannot  really wonder about it without making assumptions, and I think they are so very dangerous. Because if you lack self esteem, you're gonna feel let down. When the reality can be so different.

Internet is like a huge collective brain. We only use it to a little percentage of it's capacities, and we have to sort the negative feelings from the virtuous ones in order to function.

I often think about that. About the state of the artist. That can make a lot of things and then nothing, and the people religiously waiting, feeling abandoned. How can we rely on a stranger ? Does the concept of cult of the personality has something to do with it ? Why is music so so so important and that powerful on us... So many questions....
