Saweetie sued for over $3 Million for backing out of festival but keeping advance

Japanese concert promoters sued Saweetie for millions of dollars in damages over canceled slot at Japan's first-ever Afrobeats festival in July 2025.
Afro Jam was originally billed to include shows across Okinawa, Osaka and Tokyo, but only the Tokyo performances ended up happening. The festival's organizers blamed the cancellations on "artist and other operational reasons."

The company Moon Dream Production filed suit against Saweetie and Icy Grl Touring for fraud and breach of contract.

Saweetie entered into a deal to perform 4 shows in Japan from July 18 to July 26, 2025. Moon Dream claims Saweetie agreed to perform for a $200k fee. She was paid a $100k deposit.

The concert promoter says Saweetie breached the deal by failing to perform the shows.

She allegedly still used the promoters' services to get a visa for her and her entire team to enter Japan, then proceeded to perform at different venues for other vendors on the same dates she was contractually bound to perform” for them.

The promoter claims Saweetie and her team have refused to return the $100k.   The suit is also seeking $3 million in punitive damages.

Jason Derulo is also sued. 

Derulo was paid a $200,000 advance to perform in Okinawa and Osaka, before the promoters discovered that he was already contracted to perform in Spain during that time
