Nope. It’s the best album of Taylor’s career and one of the best of the year in general. The applause is deserved to be honest

I know... it literally transports you somewhere else, and even after a ton of listens you still don’t get bored and manage to find something. I really can’t understand why some people don’t appreciate it.

It's not really that people don't appreciate the album, it's that they think tay's getting acclaimed non-stop for something many indie artists do without getting any acclaim.

Many also believe race perception plays a role in it. They don't get how folklore can sincerely have critics as stellar as  lemonade for example.

Not people doing mental gymnastics trying to turn folklore’s acclaim into a race thing instead of maybe admitting that... the album is good? You don’t like it fine. Clearly many other people do. It’s not rocket science.

Lion Heart

I also really like Taylor's new album. Would not be surprised if she wins AOTY at the Grammys.

I hadn’t thought of it like that... I can definitely see where your coming from. I  think after falling in love with Folklore, I started to look for more indie, less produced storytelling music (if you have any recs I’d love that), and found that lots of artists have been done something similar before. However, isn’t impact also something taken into consideration?

As to your second point, the Grammys really have a deeper institutional issue where minority artists are not recognized on the same scale as white artists. Though I love Folklore the most out of all the AOTY nominees, I really hope the Grammys diversify the winners of their categories, because by omitting the Weeknd, it seems they just set it up for white artists to sweep the main categories.

All of these publications putting Folklore above Fetch The Bolt Cutters are delusional.

I love Taylor and Folklore but this is some delusional s***

People saying race possibly played a role in the acclaim often say themselves the album is good. It's not about denying that it's a good one, it's about asking if a black person with the same album would get the same level of praise ( aside beyoncé lol ).

Think of Ed sheran getting aoty for a project which only got fine critics when black artists rarely had it and needed way better critical receptions to have it. Or Beyoncé loosing this same award to a clearly less respected adele album with Adele herself saying she didn't deserve it... Bieber's yummy getting a nom for a song that was panned by critics which you'll never see happen with a black artist and si many other examples... It's hard to not think grammy's do have a racial bias, mainly when it comes to main categories. :/

Maybe you'll like Steven sufjan or saint Vincent. ;)

Well grammy's claim is they're about " artistic excellence" so impact logically would'nt be part of the choice yet they often go for the bigger names lol so... It's a messy selection process in itself haha !

Oh the main categories are often given to white artists in most grammy's editions, sometimes you ask yourself how they dare doing what they do seing the great work of black artists they have to snub in the process...

Butters Stotch

At least they included WYP? On the top 10... the Folklore AOTY Hoax is still going on? Guess it's gonna win the Grammy and they are programming us so we won't be shocked when they announce it :billie:
