Analysis shows as Centrist Dems move right, the more they lose

An analysis of the US 2020 election results found that the more a Democratic candidate moved to the right (see: moderate and centrist Dems), the worse they performed. Even as progressive candidates performed better, and all won their races.

Also: Every single member who backed Medicare For All won their races, while corporate sellout Dems were tossed out.

Just completely disproves all the talking points going around here and elsewhere and that the Democratic party doesn't need to pretend to be Republicans since Republicans are never gonna vote for a Dem anyway, and that doing so actually costs them their own base which is needed to elect Democratic candidates.

Centrist Dems haven't done enough for progress, it's the people that have pushed THEM to the left. 

Centrist Dems want to be Republican-lite so bad because they think they will lose. 

Or perhaps they don't want to be exposed as diet Republicans, which many are.

Yeah, as much as I'm for cooperating with Republicans (or at least toning down the tribalism) it's really jarring to see these young and progressive senators crushing their opponents while moderate Democrats struggle to eek out wins.

I thought a good strategy for Biden would be to chip away at Trump's support. Clearly, that didn't work, and we would have lost if not for the push from the left.

So, yeah, it's time to lean into these progressive policies and hand the reigns of the party to the likes of AOC, Abrams, etc who've proved they can turn out votes and flip even red states like Arizona and Georgia and win back states like Michigan and Pennsylvania with the proper outreach and mobilization tactics

Props to you for being able to see the mistakes and failures after being presented with evidence and changing accordingly.

We definitely need more of that! It's the only way we're going to be able to retain the House in 2022 and take the Senate.

Running on popular, progressive policies should be a no-brainer, the fact that we have to fight to get people to recognize that is insane.

What I find hilarious is the notion that being "far left" in the Democratic Party is something reserved for "certain parts" of the country.

It should be the other way around. Progressive candidates in all major cities - they WOULD win. Centrist/moderates in swing districts. Imagine if they took this strategy and actually passed legislation that drastically changed people's lives.

I said impossible because I’m not a politician, but even though having progressive people being elected we have to admit that is not easy.

Actually, every single progressive candidate destroyed their opponent and won their races easy. So not sure what you're saying that for when it's just not true based on actual election results lol

Don't believe me? Go look up the names I mentioned previously and you'll see for yourself the margins they won be. AOC for instance won with almost 70% of the vote in her district.

People overwhelmingly support progressive policies, and the evidence shows when a candidate fights for those things, they win by massive margins.

I voted for the $15 wage.  Most people in red counties of Florida vote as liberals economically and conservative in every other regard. I probably would have voted for Bernie, but I feel like we need some fresh blood running for President.

This is clear as day. John Kerry, Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden are proof that running middle of the road Democrats is a losing strategy, and will only have more and more devastating effects in the near future. It’s time for a progressive. Hopefully 2024 we wisen up and run a progressive or I fear another neofascist could win the White House.
