Ex-Leader Corbyn kicked from Labour party

I think he was expelled because of his statement. This is his statement:

“Antisemitism is absolutely abhorrent, wrong and responsible for some of humanity’s greatest crimes. As Leader of the Labour Party I was always determined to eliminate all forms of racism and root out the cancer of antisemitism. I have campaigned in support of Jewish people and communities my entire life and I will continue to do so.

“The EHRC’s report shows that when I became Labour leader in 2015, the Party’s processes for handling complaints were not fit for purpose. Reform was then stalled by an obstructive party bureaucracy. But from 2018, Jennie Formby and a new NEC that supported my leadership made substantial improvements, making it much easier and swifter to remove antisemites. My team acted to speed up, not hinder the process.

“Anyone claiming there is no antisemitism in the Labour Party is wrong. Of course there is, as there is throughout society, and sometimes it is voiced by people who think of themselves as on the left.

“Jewish members of our party and the wider community were right to expect us to deal with it, and I regret that it took longer to deliver that change than it should.

“One antisemite is one too many, but the scale of the problem was also dramatically overstated for political reasons by our opponents inside and outside the party, as well as by much of the media. That combination hurt Jewish people and must never be repeated.

“My sincere hope is that relations with Jewish communities can be rebuilt and those fears overcome. While I do not accept all of its findings, I trust its recommendations will be swiftly implemented to help move on from this period.”

After he was expelled he released this statement:

I will strongly contest the political intervention to suspend me. I’ve made absolutely clear that those who deny there has been an antisemitism problem in the Labour Party are wrong.

It’s also undeniable that a false impression has been created of the number of members accused of antisemitism, as polling shows: that is what has been overstated, not the seriousness of the problem.

I will continue to support a zero tolerance policy towards all forms of racism. And I urge all members to stay calm and focused - while this problem is resolved amicably, as I believe it will be - to defeat this awful government, which is further impoverishing the poorest in our society.

Well... It doesn't make sense :deadbanana: Am I too biased or was this just an excuse to "cancel" him politically?

If you could link me to examples of the far out anti-semitism, I’d be grateful. Not doubting your claims, I’d just like to know more. But yes I know you can be pro-Palestine yet not anti-semitic - just let the arabs have their land... they was just chillin :/

This is a bit dated but this was the Chakrabarti Report summarised (from the BBC):

In 2016, Jeremy Corbyn asked the barrister and human rights campaigner Shami Chakrabarti - who was appointed a Labour peer soon after her report was published - to look into the extent of anti-Semitism and other forms of racism within the party.

The report concluded that while Labour was not "overrun by anti-Semitism or other forms of racism", there was an "occasionally toxic atmosphere".

It called for a series of recommendations to tackle what it said was the "clear evidence of ignorant attitudes" within sections of the party.

The report's launch was marred, though, by a verbal confrontation which led to the expulsion of activist Marc Wadsworth from the party after he criticised a Jewish MP.

I don't know of any examples of Corbyn being out-right antisemitic, or racist in any other form. There's been some cases with party members, but I don't know if these individual cases have been released.

The conservative faction of Labour helped to sabotage Corbyn in 2019 after his pretty stunning success in 2017, and now they're using these bogus accusations of anti-semitism to just blatantly kick all of the socialists out of the party. They did it with Rebecca Long-Bailey earlier this year.

An in-depth report released a few months ago showed that literally half of all of the complaints of anti-semitism within Labour were submitted by one person. The same person submitted half of all of the complaints they received. In other words, it was a baseless smear aimed at derailing Corbyn, just like the "Bernie Bro" line that the Clinton campaign recycled from her run against Obama in 2008 ("Obama Boys").

The lesson is pretty clear: Centrist liberals are the enemies of socialists and progressives everywhere. What the Democrats and the US media did to Bernie, Labour and the right-wing press in the UK is doing to Corbyn. It's despicable.

I would agree that this was an attempt to cancel him politically, along with his allies and supporters. This also allows Starmer to say "I'm dealing with antisemitism, look what I've done".

It's very true. When Corbyn was elected in 2015 he attempted to make a coalition across the party which included members from the left, centre and right. I think one of Corbyn's faults was that he should have been tougher with the right wing and also the centre in the Labour Party as he was democratically elected twice with over 50% of the vote to establish socialist policies. However, the PLP was too busy trying to undermine him and his policies, leading to more factional rivalries.

This is all a lot 😐 We pray for a Bernie-like leader to run the Dem party + the country, but some dumb **** like this would probably happen

Populism just means for the people, by the people. You can be left wing populist (Bernie Sanders, AOC), or right wing populist (Tucker Carlson, 2016-Trump rhetoric.) The opposite of populism is corporatism and power. Those who have all the money and stop progress on issues of climate change are those types of people, not populists. Fighting against climate catastrophe is an action for the people, so that’s populist - left wing populism. Its sad that right wing governments lean on populism and toxic nationalism to win across the world, but its absolutely not, and never should be just exclusive to the right. Good thing the tides are changing on that tho

Centrism is a disease and is the reason progress cannot be achieved.

The left and the right can never really fight it out because the center and the right always tag teams the left. There is a reason they do that. Because only the left is truthfully going to try and help the people. The center and the right will always be for the wealthy and the corporate interests.

What is happening to Jeremey happened to Bernie and will happen to every future leftist.

his life's work all being for nothing at the end and being kicked out in the most disrespectful way is truly tragic. Jeremy was not anti semetic. He just showed a genuine care for Palestinians and so I guess treating Palestinians like human beings equates you being an anti semite in today's world. Oh well.

This is true. On the one hand we have an MP that has campaigned against racism all his life, even when British governments supported it:

And on the other hand we have two Prime Minister's (David Cameron and Boris Johnson in this photograph) who have consistently held horrid views on people not like them:
