Summerboi14 807
I love the lyrics. The robot voice and the instrumental.
brucee 1,690
I like it because those layers on the vocals that create the 'vocoder' effect are smooth and subtle af. . For me it's so intricate and good. A total grower. (People need a good sensitivity to music nor good speakers please coz i think that generic speakers are not good idk. Or at least different kind of speakers to understand all king the layerings) I think it's a total bop about a complex subject that may not touch everyone, but in the end, people love darkness and deep things. It would totally be a bold choice, and deserves a treatment à la G.U.Y.'s ARTPOP film. And I personally think what makes Gaga and TF is the boldness of the singles. None of 'em on the Fame are the most GP choices, whereas since BTW, I think the choices are more "consensual" oriented. Not always. But well..... Choosing a single is tough. Also : when they try to follow what people are supposed to like the most, it doesn't always works well either... Nein won won. hello hello baby. I identify with the story. My biggest enemy is me repeating like trapped in a loop of daily insecurities and anxiety. My self care anthem. Pop a 123 (Montenegro) I mean 911. as a pot smoket I always hear pop a 4-20 haha. hello hello baby.
Pablo 7,780
1. I relate to the lyrics and the production fits really well with the theme of the song. It's a bop 2. I'm not sure if it's a good single, Chromatica doesn't have many single ready standouts left 3. See my answer for #2 Follow up, why do you think it's not a good fit when the majority of fans love the song? Don't visit my profile
Oriane 20,932
1. What do you like about it? I like the atmosphere of the song and how it really fits the subject. The verses sound very robotic, almost like she's mindlessly repeating those lines without thinking about it because that's all she can do once she's taken her medication. And I find the chorus very hypnotic. She repeats that sentence so many times, like a mantra, to convince herself that she's her biggest enemy and her problems come from herself. And at the same time she's saying that everytime she thinks that, she automatically responds by taking medication. Her tone in the chorus is light and it sounds like she's smiling while saying it, even though the meaning is so dark. It gives a sick twist to the song because it's almost like she's enjoying that state, and that's why I love the song. 2. Why do you think it makes a good single? Honestly I have no idea what makes a good single or not, except for people liking the song in general, and the song being kind of mainstream ? I think it would be received well musically, I don't know about the meaning though. But there have been hit songs with a lot darker subjects. 3. Why do you think it should become a single now over all the other potential choices? I don't know which other songs would fit specifically now, I guess most songs would be fine. SL, Fun Tonight and 911 have this. Also 911 has a lot of production building up and the Chorus is perfect release for all of that tension. A big Chorus would be unbearable to listen to. It's a worrying trend for sure. But I don't think the ones you quoted follow that. I disagree that a stripped back chorus is better after a big production build up. It should at least be on the same level. It just feels like a let-down if it's anything less. 5 hours ago, Miky said: I think that's the point tbh. I, for one, enjoy that feeling, having struggled with mental issues myself. It feels very familiar, like coming home to a feeling you've experienced before. While I've never sought medication for my anxiety, I can relate to these lyrics but not when they're put down in this robotic way with this music. I know that those are the biggest issues when even someone like me can't truly relate. 50 minutes ago, Pablo said: Follow up, why do you think it's not a good fit when the majority of fans love the song? Because it doesn't sound mainstream enough, isn't interesting enough, isn't danceable and while fans may love it, I don't see it resonating with the public. Singles are for the public, not fans. If I weren't a fan, this would turn me off from seeking out the album such a song was attached to. I'm open to the idea that I may be wrong, though. My predictions about what the public will like has been off many times. And if it's a success, well, we know that at least means there's a guarantee of further singles. Shaney 5,515
Gaga finally takes a risk with a single for the first time since Perfect Illusion and the fans freak out (in a bad way). Gaga fans suck. No wonder she doesn’t visit GGD anymore or talk to us.
CHROMATICCOLORS 313
it is a fun song, cheesy but fun. Nothing ever stays the same, nothing ever changes.
latina twilight 2,319
Well, I just like it (???? weird question, but okay. Do I think it's the best choice for a single? no. Do I care? nope. "YOU USED TO BE SO KIND, I NEVER KNEW YOU HAD SUCH A DIRRTY MIND".
ShayCristoforo 10,607
The lyrics are pretty powerful. And the sound/pacing of the song matches what the lyrics are describing. I think that's pretty clever. The beat and vocal tones she uses also sound cool. Sure, the chorus is simple and repetitive, but again, I think that matches the theme of the song. And it helps create levels, since the verses are fast. Overall, I think the robotic/alien sound is exciting for a lot of people. Get the pinot ready, because it's turtle time. flyaway 15,350
Everyone in here has said it To me, it has to do with how unconventional it is, and the way Gaga played with her voice on this one. They also made a great instrumental. It's still very catchy and very fun, but at the same time its lyrics address a real issue in Gaga's life. At the beginning I wasn't very convinced I liked it, but it's pretty good.
