Ugh people already complaining about this as if untalented white folks haven’t been getting cast in big movies since the dawn of time. Where was your talent over diversity then? Please fvck off

I don't get the 'movies should be casted on talent not diversity!' rhetoric as if minorities are less talented than cishet white actors? What makes you think Hollywood has absolutely ZERO bias towards certain groups when they're casting?

People reacting to this are being waaay over-dramatic.

THANK YOU! This thread is ridiculous! They sound the same as the people saying there shouldn't be a poc percentage of admissions to colleges. So sad.

Art should be never forced into a mold. Films need to be good to be nominated. So, now the directors must cast their films according to how the actors look and not by their talent. :selena:
These stupid decisions are the reasons why people are against BLM and LGBT. Most people aren’t agree with this, and I’m not suprised :saladga:

I mean if your art can't handle being represented by a black man, a woman, or having some minorities included your art is already in a mold. :lolly:
If a film is good you can have a good actor doing the main role now matter his race that you'd enjoy watching that.

I see nothing wrong with it. It’s a way forward in the film industry, towards reflecting the real diversity in the world, instead of pandering to the same demographics year after year. It’s not perfect, but it’s correct - if you think there’s a problem with this, then take a look at the best picture winners of the last 20 years. No one is being forced to change their art because of this, but the relevance of winning one of the most important awards in the entertainment industry should have higher standards such as these - and should have started implementing them many years ago. There’s nothing outrageous here.

Oscars have no meaning now that they’re not even pretending it’s always been about politics

Yea, they really tried, but it wasnt enough, because the "diverse" characters were episodic. The movie also didnt have any political message.

They actually tried to push it as a movie about mental health, in order to have the right message. It isnt enough to make a good movie now.

Serial Chiller

I hope all of those enraged are also aware of the fact that white actors were putting on blackface and yellowface, the latter of which continued on until the 90s, to portray POC.

As if there are not talented minorities. The point is to give talented minorities representation.

As if Denzel Washington, could not act circles around most Oscar wining white people.

Why is Nicole Kidman in every Oscar nominated movie for the past 20 years and not Angela Basset.

Well-meaning proposal leading to a potential mess, let's see how it pans out. Remember that failed proposal for Popular Film Category from 2 years ago? They never learn.

I feel like this tweet was clearer than the article. The guidelines seem fairly generous to me.
