Biggest Bitch 5,230
Isn’t it too much? As a black gay man I think it’s ridiculous. Art should be never forced into a mold. Films need to be good to be nominated. So, now the directors must cast their films according to how the actors look and not by their talent. These stupid decisions are the reasons why people are against BLM and LGBT. Most people aren’t agree with this, and I’m not suprised https://www.google.hu/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/09/08/movies/oscars-diversity-rules-best-picture.amp.html

Not necessarily. This is still a small percentage of the overall cast and if anything, it will bring out the fresh new faces that are talented and weren't being given a chance before. There's no shortage of talented actors of all races but most never get a chance. Now more will. Majunnka 263
What a sad world we live in when even artist can't decide who they want on THEIR work and THEIR movie... if they want to make it successful A mess. I have no more comment on that.
Ryusei 61,502
Ok but all this changes is the eligibility, in the end there could still only be like 2 or even less POC acting nominees across the board of lead and supporting actor categories, let alone wins. Of course this will give a bigger variety of people an opportunity (if the filmmakers wanna be eligible for the oscars) but since only 2 of the 4 standards need to be fulfilled I can see a lot of people just going the easy way, keeping the casting as it always was and just hire more diverse people behind the scenes... if even that because the vast majority of movies nominated for best picture in the past 10 years would still be eligible. I feel like as drastic as this reads at first, it won't change much, if anything. Idk I'm curious about what industry people have to say about this. Scarlet Witch 1,656
Wait so do PoC dominated movies like Moonlight need to add in white actors to make it look 'diversified'? I can see how this will backfire spectacularly

MonsterOfSpain 8,331
"at least one of the lead actors or a significant supporting actor must be from an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, whether that means Asian, Hispanic, Black, Indigenous, Native American, Middle Eastern, North African, native Hawaiian or other Pacific Islander. There are alternatives: Thirty percent of all actors in secondary or more minor roles could come from two of the following categories: women, L.G.B.T.Q., an underrepresented racial or ethnic group, or those with cognitive or physical disabilities" This is so damn ridiculous I can't even believe what I'm reading

Pennywise 36,080
This is like trying to put an oil fire out with water tbh. But I agree with the fact that now more and more actors will get a chance, which sounds great. So long ggd, it was nice while it lasted.
Sneaky Oliver 22,988
I can just imagine how many actors are now rejoicing because they will be given a chance to appear in a movie even thought this “chance” is not spontaneous. Yet GGD will make it sound terrible and problematic. Give yourselves a break. Oh god.
gag 22,449
I don't get the 'movies should be casted on talent not diversity!' rhetoric as if minorities are less talented than cishet white actors? What makes you think Hollywood has absolutely ZERO bias towards certain groups when they're casting? People reacting to this are being waaay over-dramatic. headspin, happiness, DE̤̣A̢̯͔̘T͏͙̗̟̫H̗̙͡ͅ
