Hell, appreciate tight pants and tshirts were a “gay” thing at one point and I would LOVE for all straight men to appropriate the look lol. Moral of the story, at some point we have to see idk know the whole story???

its just americans getting offended over everything, no one really cares in real life especially since she grew up around this culture and is very close to the black community

Americans have a deep racial divisive society and it's not their fault. I feel for the black community especially who suffers but as a result they have put their mentality into the rest of the world who does not live in the United States of America and doesn't necessarily understand that kind of mentality where people are categorized into ethnicities. When you have issues with colorism in the black community that I see a lot of americans (who are black, i refuse to say african-american, they are americans) delve into, and then on top of it, the problem with "cultural appropriation" which I think has gone too far, and then "white savior" problem, to then a 'white supremacy', 'Karen', 'KKK right-wingers' issue and so on and so forth it's complicated. I understand that the US has a way of influencing the rest of the world but there seems to be a backlash when it comes to mentality and the way of REASONING when it comes to RACE. We dont have the same discussions or preoccupations about RACE. And this is from a POC from France. DISCLAIMER: I am not saying racism only exists in the US. Racism exists everywhere and will always exist, it is what it is. I am talking about the discussion of race and preocupations and worries about life in society as a poc person

If you go to the comments on those Twitter threads it gets super weird. Some Twitter users who are Black Americans say Jamaicans/other black people not from America are using this as a chance to defend white people (some people called Adele a "colonizer") and to attack Black Americans. I dont know man, I try to be as socially progressive as I can, but some of the Twitter users have too much free time on their hands.

No I don’t think this makes her racist. But wearing Bantu knots as a white woman is a little ignorant and insensitive.

But, if Jamaicans are not offended, I, as a black American, am not going to sit here and tell them what and what not to be offended by. I see a lot of people from Jamaica defending Adele on Twitter. I just think Adele should have thought it out better and hopefully was prepared for the inevitable backlash she would get from that picture being released.

do I think she could have avoided this conversation in general by choosing NOT to wear Bantu knots, yes.

Adele is a british woman she can do whatever she wants outside of American protocole and guides rules and regulations of what you can and cannot wear. I travel all the time to Africa, I see woman wearing these hairstyles and guess what, buying hats and jewelleries from the culture of the x country. Give me a break. It's one thing to do it to mock people and insult them or gain something from it (money etc) it's another when u just wanna have fun and appreciate a culture

listen idk why yall are quoting me when i'm literally agreeing with the fact that Black americans needing to stop telling other countries how to feel about their culture. All I'm saying is the backlash is NOT suprising, considering the times we are in right now, especially in the US. That doesn't mean that I agree with or think the backlash is warranted, I'm just saying it is NOT suprising and Adele should not be surprised by it either.
