Yeah, systemic, my bad. And yeah, no. It's racism. Just like someone beating the **** out of you because you're gay is homophobia, not sexual prejudice. If you hurt someone solely because of their race, it's racism. No matter the race.

RahrahWitch 6,985
The Caricature of a Karen is a white woman with some bird nest of a hairdo. That's not to say that other races and even men can't behave like a Karen. Just like with other slang there's usually a character that portrays the image of it but that doesn't mean it's exclusive to people who fit that image. If we lived in one where systemic racism didn't exist, it would be a different conversation. But that's what's important - not theoretical situations of white people being racially targeted (it's not a real issue, sorry,) for the sake of arguing semantics. I'm also coming at this from an American perspective, and trying to reflect what is relevant here, where these are very real issues. If you're just focusing on "white people can be oppressed too," you're missing the point. i don't remember ARTPOP

But if it actually happened, it’s literally a textbook definition of racism. And I’m not focusing on claiming white people can be oppressed, I’m just saying that racism against whites is possible. I’m not trying to minimize the problem Murica has with anyone who’s not white.
KNJ 4,312
This thread still going? Lemme share this before it gets closed. Decoder Ring : The Karen https://slate.com/podcasts/decoder-ring/2020/07/decoder-ring-the-karen Link is to transcript and Spotify too "The Karen, a white woman who surveys, inconveniences, and terrorizes service workers and people of color, is a relatively new term in the culture, but her character type has been with us for centuries. In this episode of Decoder Ring, we explore the history of this type, from the code names used during enslavement to the contemporary menace of the COVID age. From “Miss Ann” to the “Becky” of Sir Mix-a-Lot to more recent names like “Permit Patty,” these codes have served an important function to identify danger and ward off potential harassment or violence. KNJ 4,312
Another excellent podcast... Code Switch : Whats In A 'Karen'? https://www.npr.org/2020/07/14/891177904/whats-in-a-karen The link contains an additional article, not a transcript, but still a good read. There's a consistent line that connects Miss Ann to Becky to Karen. But there's hope for them. "Karen has inherited Miss Ann's entitlement; it has been handed down, like the family silver or an antique wedding veil. She and Becky may not wear Miss Ann's hoop skirts, but they move through the world in the same way: certain of their right to be there, certain they have more right to be there than you. And it is that certainty that's so dangerous. Karen knows she can call on her own community or the state to put Black bodies where she wants them. Don't want them in the hotel swimming pool? Call the police. Think they shouldn't be sleeping in the same dorm as you? Call the police. Angry that a child is selling ice water on a hot day on a public sidewalk near you? Oh, Officer Friendly ..." "She's an intellectual, your honor"

Defining racism solely as the definition of “Systemic racism” is incorrect and a widely spread narrative to push the lie that you “can’t be racist to a white person”. Racism is racism- there are many different forms of racism. The correct thing to say is- in a society where white people are the majority, or have historically been the controlling factor of a society; in that society you can’t be systematically racist to a white person. But social exclusion, violence, etc, because the person is white, is indeed racist- just not systemic racism.
NCgaga 4,345
Also to add: working in the service industry you come across “Karen’s” of all colors. I not offended by the word Karen because they exist. White people in America haven’t been oppressed, ever in this country, so I think we can bite the bullet with Karen. Is it hypocritical, sure. But yes, all my years in the industry, I have come across far less Karen’s that aren’t white or black. White and black Karen’s are by far the worst- and I think it’s because of a mixture of entitlement and how seriously America as a whole puts in emphasis on the value of good customer service. So many white people worried about "truth" and "correctness" when it comes to defending their own race. Lol- I read your posts. And I corrected you. Your condescending response obviously shows the weakness in your argument that you are still trying to push the false narrative of the definition of racism is only systemic racism. Racism is a broad spectrum, and you are narrowing it to fit YOUR narrative. Maybe you need to reread your own responses and rethink your approach to how you push your ideals. What you say amour systemic racism and white people in America is correct. What you say about racism and white people is incorrect. also, you don’t get to label your argument as “truth” if you don’t even grasp the definition of the term.
