She related her success to much on her sexual image and her luck. And now the GP doesn't seeing her attractive as before.

We shall see what happens after this album. I feel like an image shift is necessary but I also think being 9 months pregnant doesn't go hand in hand with a shift.

Smile seems fine for where she presently is in her life.

Sorry, but IMHO, it wouldn't even be half as good. Aside from its stripped down music, the main power of folkore album laid on its lyrics. And we all know Katy is not a good writer that TS is. The quality of lyrics between these two people is night and day. And it is obvious.

Also, IDK what it is with KP, but she always ended up doing the same veins of sounds that she did in 2010s aggain and again, even after she talked about some ambitious plans. After Witness tanked, I thought she would take a lesson and start to reinvent her sounds, well, so much for that, cos she releases another Teenage Dream-y clone. For that reason alone, I don't think she can or will go anywhere now, that ship had sailed, it is a bit too late for her if she only changes after this point. This is just another case of comfort zone being harmful to your career.

It worked for Taylor because her roots were in country and folk. Katy doesn't have that background and I think it would have been a flop. It's like Justin Timberlake's last album, very incohesive with previous work.

First of all, I think it's a false narrative that she needs to be more successful than she currently is, just because she was the "it girl" for a few years. A lot of artists get that chance but it is futile to expect that to continue forever. I think her having decent success and catering to her fans like she is now is what she was meant to do and assuming something is "missing" because she isn't getting #1s is a really toxic mentality.

With that said, I think she's proven over and over that her style is very kitschy sugar-pop, regardless of what the public's reception is. I wouldn't want her to try to be something else just so she can replicate the success of Teenage Dream or Prism. And if that's something she's aiming for, then I think it's a waste of her fans' time who probably just want her to be herself.

It would not go anywhere. This forum is literally the only place where she gets discussed. Her career with the GP has been over for about 6 years and 0 effort has been put into regaining it. That’s it. Taylor and Gaga won :ohwell:

Katy definitely prefers ballads but they've never been her biggest draw for sales, so even if creating a stripped back acoustic album would be more authentic and a better hit with critics, it wouldn't be a big seller. Personally, I've never been the biggest fan of her ballads, with only a few exceptions but I do think they have got better over time. I liked HiH and NWW and this What Makes A Woman song sounds like it might be quite good based on description but as we've seen, they don't pull in numbers of more upbeat songs. Another problem is, apart from the Smile video, not one song has matched this circus theme so far, so I think there needs to be more cohesion with songs and imagery. I think she'd love to do an album that goes back to her roots but will Capitol let her? But as we've seen, her usual pop sound isn't selling like it used to, so what does she have to lose by going completely her own way now? At least she doesn't have the pressure of expectation like she used to, which can be very liberating.

All T all shade her ballads are pretty bad and none of her serious acoustic stuff works, not even at Hot AC radio. She's not the musician nor songwriter nor singer Taylor is. What you are witnessing is an act buoyed by commercial appeal and slick pop songwriters flail further in her career as ageism strikes and she no longer carries favor as an image or object.
