Canada for the first 3 months of fiscal 2026 (Fiscal Year starts in April) has posted a budget deficit of $370M accounting shows

$370M is so small for a $2.5T economy it is effectively 0 and is 20 times smaller than the deficit last year at $6.2B for the same period

This came as revenues grew faster than spending. Though not mentioned in the article, higher oil prices may also be helping as Canada is an exporter of some 5M barrels a day (and net exporter of about 4M)

That said, new measures to help businesses and consumera against new US tarrif effects are likely to push the numbers back up and for the year as a whole Canada is still expected to finish with a deficit of at least 1.5% of GDP. Its also common for some quarters later in the year to have worse results than Q1. However the surprising first quarter of the fiscal year leaves the Government with more room to maneuver than they maybe originally thought
