Ronnie 6,012
Does a statement such as Black Is King help unite or cause more divide? It's quite interesting when you really strip it down and think about how we go to war over racism and try to abolish a group that thinks they are superior just because of their skin color but push a narrative that says the very thing we're fighting. Our Gaga had the best visuals in the business and built her career on it, only to continue to allow Beyonce and Taylor dominate her in Visuals. It’s what made her unique. Now she puts on a costume, dances around in a desert while being filmed by iPhones. i just don’t understand what happened to that spark she used to have. I still love her though, and will always support her. 1 hour ago, NCgaga said: Rain on me was alright. Just super short and too fast. Vague story line. Just not on the same caliber she used to be. I do have hope that she will bring visuals back one day. This. Gaga should have a visual album by now. Or gosh, idk, a concert special that was filmed more recently than 9 years ago. A reach I know

Thoughts? I see your point, but those who wish to see it as divisive will. And those who allow the art to speak for itself, will. I personally don't mind the title. I think it's commentary on our culture. I mean just look at fashion and music right now. Hip hop and rap are selling loads and also influencing other genres. Every other social media post is some white girl with dreads or Fulani ("Bo Derek" ) braids. So I'd agree, Black Is King.
HEARTSTOP 3,143
Looks great but, as usual, it's as "Wakanda-nized" as it can be. The American idea of what African beauty and culture means which is barely realistic at all. There was a thread somewhere here which brought some tweets to my attention that I completely agree, saying that she capitalizes on an idea of something that she has no relation to besides the color of her skin. I have close family from African countries (Mozambique, Cape Verde, and Angola), and they completely agreed with the tweets when I discussed it with them. Either way, Get that black coin qween B! Very true. Could also be said about gay culture but I don't think Gay Is King would be as accepted coming from a well respected gay artist. But, with that said, we really don't have a current gay artist as big as Beyonce.

I think it was in the YouTube comments that I saw some Africans saying it was ironic she was using or inspired by their imagery yet will not be made available to that country (via Disney+). It's like she's "white washing" if you think of it that way

EDIT: https://blackamericaweb.com/2018/06/28/jay-z-and-beyonce-are-inspired-by-africa-so-why-wont-they-perform-there/ She did go to South Africa when she was in Destiny's Child for a charity concert though...but let's just say South Africa is the most "American" country in Africa when it comes to race culture. Gay culture does have plenty of great things to celebrate but their are far more toxic traits that really bring us down.
Rbr 421
Those visuals are incredible. Its impressive how Beyoncé’s brand has been transformed to pure perfection the past few years. Always silent and always delivering.

NCgaga 4,324
Black is king? What does that even mean? Black is superior? I’m going to save my judgements until there is more context. Beyonce was raised in an upperclass household. They grew up in a two story house, their mom running a business. Beyoncé has never struggled for anything and was always seen as the light skinned pretty girl- even in her very own girl group. She doesn’t fully understand a struggle and is one of the most priveleged people on earth right nowZ This narrative she has been pushing is definitely to capitalize on something that is somewhat of a cultural reset. Ever since Sasha fierce it’s likeX is there more to Beyonce, or is this it?
