Shakira reaches #2 in the UK with Dai Dai + serving global smash

By rising to #2 in the UK this week, Shakira earns her 4th Top 2 hit of her career (Whenever Wherever at #2, Hips Dont Lie at #1, Beautiful Liar at #1 being her others).

It's also predicted to rise to the Top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 despite Youtube (by far its biggest metric where it's #1 with a huge distance) not being included.

Genuinely surprised as I thought Shakira was considered largely a nostalgia act by the UK whose new music just wasn't noticed or cared about. We naturally are huge football fans but it's just the England anthems that reign supreme on our charts because of it. This is really significant. I don't think it's as good as Waka Waka but it's a decent, modern World Cup song and it's clearly connecting. It's the only anthem I've remembered since her original Waka Waka. 

I also want to add that Rein Me In by Sam Fender and Olivia Dean has just taken the #1 spot for the 18th non-consecutive week, which ties it with I Believe by Frankie Laine as the all-time longest-running #1 song of all time on the UK charts...which means that it just needs to go #1 for one more week to take the record. So, radio will probably do all in their power to keep it there next week so 2 British artists take the record. But if Shakira got a #1 after all this time, that would be pretty awesome.
