They fined several streaming platforms for hosting content that is not in line with their family values.

Just once I'd like to see a platform like Netflix say "we'll just pay the fine and keep it available".

Then if the government says they have to remove it or their platform will be banned entirely, they say "k, see you in a few years when you catch up to the 21st century".

Stand on business and have a real code of ethics. Otherwise, keep your bullsh*t "LGBTQ+ movies and shows for you" to yourself this June.

And people that i know think I'm over reacting when I say I won't travel to Turkey, dubai and other places. They say "it's absolutely fine..". Well, clearly it's not. Mind you, these are straight people saying it to me.

As a Turkish person, I'll never get why the country that was raised with Yesilcam in the 60-70s... So basically an industry that allowed sexploitation and some movies with queer codes aswell (rarer tho)... Bans gay movies now.

Further than that, Turkey, the Middle-East and even Islam has an history of queer ppl. But all of that has been forgotten.

Even Atatürk, the most worshipped person in the country was bi and not even muslim. Just saying that the country is supposed to be secular and does not have to penalize the same-sex couples. :yennefer:

Didn't the Islamic regions of the ME have a hardcore backslide in the 60s and 70s? Or was that just Iran?

Lowkey I remember the member Didymus basically writing novels (very interesting novels) about American and European/North Asian meddling being responsible for the comparatively progressive ME into a conservative, theocratic hellscape. The cold war was a large part of it.

But I've forgotten the actual history.

They'll always be willing to abandon us somehow. Infuriating and terrifying

Not just Iran. But Iran is the only one (to my knowledge) where religious leaders took power vs many other countries which were/are monarchies and the ones which had military coups.

Yea I know in the 60-70s there were unironically the rise of authoritarian regimes. The cold war has to do a lot with the rise of the whabbinism ideology. An extreme revisionist vision of Islam.
