Trump to defund COVID-19 testing sites

I'm not entirely sure what the general attitude of all Americans is toward the virus. My family and friends in the US though seem are horrified at the state their country has found itself in. Make testing mandatory in virus-ridden states is a solid idea. Enforce temperature checks everywhere. Limit the amount of people in certain places (Gyms etc). Educate people on the dangers of not caring about a deadly virus that we really know nothing about yet. States need to open up their economies but in the right way. 

Trump literally has no idea how to deal with a pandemic. He's referred to it as a hoax, as a 'Chinese Virus', a man made virus. He's told his people to swallow bleach / disinfectant to deep clean the body to fight it.  If anyone in America doesn't care about it anymore, it's probably because of the tone his Govt. has set towards it.

They do limit the amount of people in a lot of public places, but honestly they don't need to be open. Testing won't be made mandatory in states because state governments don't even believe in the threat and even if the president wanted to make it mandatory, it would be a huge battle over states rights. You can try to educate these people all you want, but they'll still not believe it and run with what their friends say on FB. 

 

I agree Trump has set a terrible precedent, but it's also a matter of media coverage and the normalization of day to day activities again.

A lot of people care about containing it. I live in one of the states that has done an excellent job in flattening the curve, and just because things are open doesn't mean I go to those places, and most of my friends and family members are the same. Gyms in my state are only opening because a gym owner sued the governor, and my governor is in the process of appealing – regardless, I will NOT be returning to my fitness center, because I am well area that group indoor exercise is one of the most dangerous activities right now, no matter how well surfaces are disinfected.

The covidiots may have the loudest voices, but that doesn't mean we should throw in the towel and give up on containing a virus that not only is deadly for some but may have long-lasting effects for many more (there's still so much we don't know about this virus). We need to vote out Trump and fight back to educate the ignorant, and in the meantime, stay the f*ck home as much as we can, but we still need testing that is readily accessible and affordable/free.

My gym did the smart thing and is requiring members to reserve time slots if they want to use the facility. I pleas guilty when I say I’ve gone back, but I’ve gone during times where I an confirm there is either no one else there or maybe one other person. Not the greatest excuse I know.

My center is for group dance aerobics, so it's a bit different. We have to reserve a slot because capacity is limited, but they're still allowing 18 people in at a time. Even with physical distancing, given the fact that people are going to be breathing heavily, plus there is A/C and fans blowing around the air, no way in hell am I going there. It looks like lots of people agree with me. I checked the numbers of people who've reserved slots for the next few days (fitness centers can open up tomorrow), and there are plenty of classes with zero people signed up. I'll keep on exercising remotely. It's not as fun or fulfilling, but at least it's safe.

Agreed. I felt more at ease when I was there alone. Plus, on Saturday I walked right in as their radio was playing Telephone which was even better. Completely off topic I know.

In any case, I’m not a fan of my governor because of his track record but he least took measures early on and worked with other governors part of that super coalition. Delaware for being a small state actually got things right.

This is crazy. Miami just started enforcing a rule for businesses that if you don't keep social distancing and a mask you will be fined $500. This is Republican Cuban town and they are enforcing this. 

 

"Now violating businesses need to sign an affidavit before reopening that says they are following the Miami-Dade New Normal guidelines; if they continue to violate them, they could get a $500 fine or up to 180 days in jail, and could face additional closures"

Before they would just received a citation.

Homestead Hospital down here is at capacity too. Some others are close to capacity.

He is insane. How are we supposed to have accurate contact tracing without even more testing?

In the Miami Convention Center they sent people home who waited up to three hours to get tested because they ran out of testing kits. 

This is ridiculous.
