It should’ve been obvious NYC would be our hotspot. They are a massive international city with compact airspace & constant contact with others. Meanwhile it isn’t spreading in the South or Midwest because rural regions don’t habe as much transmission. We’re lucky in NZ that we have water borders so that makes shutting us down and limiting movement much more straight forward than the likes of New York. Another point is we only have the Central Government making these decisions - there’s no State vs Federal Government conflict like the US. I could imagine the Governors and Senators in the US (if they’re republican) have to make decisions that align with the Federal Government despite them disagreeing because their reputation is on the line. It sounds so corrupt... Props to those leaders who don’t give a $hit about that reputation issue and are doing what’s best.
