Honestly, I don’t believe anything China says anymore.

They’ll continue abusing animals and risking humanities health because it’s entrenched in their culture. Much like guns are in America’s.

So basically, people are being forced to become vegetarian or vegan is what you’re saying?

Absolutely not, I don't think people should be forced to become vegetarian but I hope that we will reach a point where so many people in the planet are already vegetarain that banning it will be a formality

I'm sorry if my comment seemed aggressive, that was never my intention. :ohno:

This. But it must be well planned

Also not all protein is the same so u wanna make sure when u plan a vegetarian diet (especially if vegan) that u have a right variety

Many plants do not have the full range of amino acids in their proteins so that can be an issue so variety is important

I'd struggle with a vegan diet because of my diatery restrictions tho regular vegetarian might be realistic if I had the will power :flop:

So true! Any diet should be well planned! Not just veggie diets.

I totally understand, vegan diets aren't for everyone for many diverse reasons but bless you for striving for vegetarianism, that already is such a huge and important thing!

Trust me it isn't as hard as it seems!

I am sure you will do it some day! You a badass bitch

Bless your soul for aspiring to veganism of vegetarianism. That is so ****ing brave and its the hardest yet most important step to actually doing it. You can be proud.

Whilst I agree that dogs shouldn't be held in any special standard i honestly see no downsides to banning their consumption. That makes at least one animal species that doesn't have to suffer anymore.

Of course its hypocrisy but we have to accept that humanity is inherently hypocritical, doesn't mean we should stop trying to improve ourselves.

Any kind of step towards ending the suffering of other animals is a step that should commended not discouraged in my opinion.

But I understand if you still disagree, its a very sticky topic.

It just means another animal will be killed in greater quantities. It doesn't really help anything :emma:

Either ban them all or none.

I don't get Western societies putting pet animals above others but they do and maybe why so many in this thread are praising this

If at least there was some higherarchy based on intelligence it make make sense to elevate some animals over others but that's clearly not the case cause pigs for example have been shown to be one of the most intelligent animals out there and they are among the most eaten in Western World :emma:

Did they already end the open air markets? Because that's the news I wanna hear.

Would the people that shop in those markets be able to eat if they were gone? Kind of doubt it. Maybe just ban the sale of certain meats?

Well, I'd be lying if I said I was striving for vegetarianism. I have in the past ATM I haven't been trying :flop:

And now that I'm at home with my parents and eat what my mom makes with the groceries they buy I have even less motivation to try since it would mean having to do my own seperate meal planning

I'm just saying if I decided to try again vegetarianism should be ok but veganism would be difficult

Some of the foods that trigger my IBS symptoms the most include legumes like beans (which sucks cuz I love beans) and dark leafy greens and carneferous vegetables like brocolli and cauliflower are among the worst things

Ironically meat and animal products (excluding straight cow milk) give me the least issues

My diet would have to be even more restricted than a typical vegan because of what I can't eat

If I did regular vegetarian at least I could still eat eggs, cheese and yogurt for example. Or milk (goat milk which I digest better)

I'll believe it when the ban actually happens. :madge:

I've heard this story several times in the past and nothing's been done.

Cracked my back and my neck when I read this reply getting my debating bones tingling

hahaha.

As for pigs. They are kept inside for all their lives, again, for their own wellbeing. They don't do well outside. Their metabolic system is not well developed. Their pulmonary systems shut off when kept outside. They suffer from very bad sunburns as well.

Chicken: there are different farms with different systems. Many farms are cage free and even outdoors. Yes, you might think that there are loads of animals in a small space but chicken tend to gather up in groups very close to each other for the sake of lower maintenance costs. Basically, they warm each other up instead of using a lot of their own energy to warm up. They choose to be packed(im not talking about cages). Battery cages are banned throughout EU. Yes, enriched cage systems are still allowed. But animals have to have enough space for exercise, claw-shortening device. Health problems? As outdoor chicken are more likely to catch viral diseases so it's a 50/50 situation. While keeping outdoor does prevent from arthritis in a way, it doesnt prevent viral diseases.

Cows: again, not true. There is a law for fiber to be included in the diet. No farm is completely based on cereal. As for grazing outside, do you think that cows are supposed to stay outside during winter? What are they gonna graze on? Of course they will be housed inside for some period of time. Respiratory problems in the sheds. There are restrictions on chemicals(so2, nh4, co2) levels in the barns. No farmer wants to risk that, therefore, good ventilation systems are installed way before any animals are brought in.

And for all the surgical procedures. Castration with no anaesthetics is only allowed by a rubber ring/elastrator and only before the animal is 7 days old. You probably don't realise how it all works but it's really not literally ripping the balls off. Older animals require anaesthetics.

Tail biting, ear picking and feather picking does not only occur due to boredom and lack of space. There are hierarchies and dominant behaviours in animals not only kept in indoors but also in the wild. All the procedures are for the wellbeing of the animal in the long term.

Sentience topic:

There were many research programs and experiments conducted on this topic. One of them was to house a couple of animals(can't remember the species well but it was defo a farm animal) and expose them to food, then stop giving them food for a period of time, give them again, change frequency and quantity. The results were that animals didn't show any changes in long-term behaviour, attitude after all of these different scenarios were applied. They only showed interest in eating when they needed to do so. They didn't show any type of interest in storing food for a 'better day' even when the situation allowed to do so. The conclusion was that animals are interested in ensuring their needs in the present moment. This is only one experiment, there are many and they look at many different aspects. Science is not dumb and it has its ways to explain stuff.

You talking about massive factory farms could be a topic to cover when improving the standards. Why not limiting the number of animals kept in a farm rather than banning meat?

And animals going extinct is just not a topic we should even take into consideration. It would take thousands of years for them to either adapt or go extinct and so many animals would suffer in the wild in much worse ways than being killed in an abattoir.

And thank you for the compliment hahah

No offense to anyone but how can someone be fine with eating meat knowing that an innocent living being was tortured, abused and murdered? My family and I have never eaten meat so I’m really curious. :oprah:

About god damn ****ing time.

I hope that soon, we will ban all meat for "the progress of human civilization" as the chinese put it.

I know this is gonna be controversial but I am ready to have a constructive debate with any meat eater that disagrees with me.

Yay! Constructive non aggressive debate without it having to be mean

:yay:

I have fibromyalgia and about two months ago my doctor recommended that I switch to a plant based diet to reduce inflammation. I have been doing it since and I love it! I don’t eat a lot of meat in general but it’s been a great change. Wouldn’t go back.

Incorrect. A majority of animals are kept in inhumane conditions until they die. They aren't roaming around happy as larry until they are slaughtered. A majority are in small  enclosed areas, mass bred and subject to disgusting conditions. Sure the actual "death" of a stun gun may be "humane" but the conditions they are kept in prior are largely not.

I don't know where you are taking your facts from but I've been to many farms, big and small, and I know exactly what the requirements for housing of most domesticated animals are. Small enclosed area is not as bad if it allows the animal to move, socially interact with other animals and is up to hygiene standards that have minimal risks for diseases to occur and spread. Yes, everything can be improved. As a person who is being trained to enter the industry I would be more than happy to make a change in the future by improving one or two laws but not completely eliminating the industry. It's just dumb and impossible. And if you think that roaming outside will make the animal happy then I must tell you that there are a lot more aspects in animal behaviour which is also a science by the way. I've seen many animals who are allowed to graze outside but prefer staying indoors where they feel safe and have access to food and water.

heartwarming news but concerning, the eventual freed puppies will create more supply than demand for adoption so they might end up with suboptimal care :(

so, like i always advocate, if you can, adopt a friend, never buy them

They should close wet markets for starters. No wonder the virus originated from there.

I watched the video about wet markets and I can not eat anything.
