I do really like American life! But my fav Madonna albums are LAP and ROL. Personally, I think I prefer music before American Life, but love them both

I remember when at first I didn't like AL but after listening to it a few more times, X-Static Process LITERALLY hit me! I was bawling like a baby and I didn't know why! I didn't even know the lyrics or what it meant! There's something nostalgic and "antique" about it! In fact I like most of AL because it gives of a nostalgic feeling.

Same! I was more in awe of the singles to begin with especially Hollywood and then X-Static Process just hit me like a tonne of bricks... now that, that's something

ANTI WP

:ladyhaha: okay

Madame x, Rebel heart, Ray of light, Erotica, True Blue, Confession on the dance floor are far superior than this .

I am glad someone agrees with me. I twas one of the few Madonna albums I could listen to in full over and over again. It has the typical Madonna bangers (American Life, Hollywood, and Die Another Day) coupled with some of her most beautiful low-tempo songs and ballads (Love Profusion, Nothing Fails, Intervention, and Xstatic Process). Truly an underrated gem.

Blown Away

In my opinion it's actually overrated. The amounts of praise I've seen for this album is incredible, considering she has so many better albums. It does have a couple of great songs though. Nothing Fails and Hollywood, but especially the former are beautiful. Die Another Day is cute and the title track is a guilty pleasure of mine. The other tracks don't appeal to me however, mainly because of the amount of effects there are put on her vocals or just because they are not enticing melodically. I get that the message came first in the album, but the songs are sonically so unappealing to me that the message gets lost. I've the same issue with Madame X, but without a Nothing Fails or Hollywood to make up for it.

The actual best album of Madonna imo is Bedtime Stories, followed by Ray of Light and True Blue.

They shipped it, but it got shipped back

Yes it is her best. I wish people would admire the the deeper cuts like "Intervention", "Nothing Fails" and "X-Static Process". There are also some stellar demos from that era

American life has some good songs but in its entirety it's still too incoherent and aimless. Some songs that use autotune also sound a bit bit obnoxious.

I used to listened to it all the time when it was out. I love the folktronica. The original uncensored versions of the American Life music video from Jonas Akerlund is probably my favorite Madonna video, it's incredibly shocking but sadly true. There's some Telephone vibe in the jail. Defo not my favorite album though, Ray Of Light takes the top spot.

Kind regards

Madame x,

She wishes it was as good as AL!

Rebel heart,

Ok... She gets a pass. ( Probably my 3rd favorite of her albums!)

Ray of light

There's something magical and sincere about Love Profusion that sounds more organic and "human" than anything on ROL!

Erotica

She's cool, but not as cool and batscheisse INSANE as NKM!

Confession on the dance floor

She's cool too but all of that dance-pop drivel can be replaced by my favorite Gaga bangers!😁

I'll WRECK U right Up...G.U.Y.!!!🌋💥

No, not really. It is more like a " mini- musical diary" to me and her aim was to make "the personal become universal". That's why some of the tracks sound 'unfinished' and bare. I know that doesn't appeal to some people but for a pop album it is very interesting.

not Chromatica

THANK YOU! I mean, Ray Of Light and Confessions hold a special place in my heart and sometimes I'll gravitate more towards one of those two, but American Life really is... that bitch. It's so cohesive and raw and ughhhhh... Nothing Fails has to be one of the most beautiful songs ever. Periodt.
