its not all about the mortality rate.

the difference to the regular flu is how contagious it is. we need these extreme measures to flatten the curve so hospitals wont collapse under the amount of patients they need to treat

I think everyone can understand that until a point. As we start to see some collateral victims of the lockdowns as the victims of domestic abuse or the very poor, it is clear that there is a need for balance.

You cant save people from covid and let others, maybe more, die from the effects of this fight.

the death count without these measures would be A LOT more higher than all the victims of domestic violence or poverty. the lockdown was the right decision

Sometimes it feels like I've got a war in my mind, I wanna get off but I keep riding the ride

Maybe for now. If this continues for too long, this won't be the case. It is easy to say something like this, when the effects are just starting and when everyone is counting the victims of covid, while the others are lost.

There are already statistics that show how different are the lockdowns for the rich and for the poor, how certain rases are more likely to die from this than others, how certain medicine for other diseases cant be found in some countries. Will people care in some months from now when certain countries wont have the money to fight x and y because they have spend it all on help for the economic sector now?

Everyone, even this guy understands that some measures need to be taken, but without balance more people will suffer.

I am not spokesperson for every other country. How will I know?.

I am just mentioning the fact that if the virus had not escaped China, the world wouldn't be suffering right now

The Chinese Lab had a sample which is about a few hundred

Which means it was already in the wild jumping via breathe of animals and that’s thousands upon thousands

You do know what an aerosal is? Animals breathing into the same air as humans breathe (which is nature btw) is what transferred the virus

The virus lives a long time in the air.

I understand it but why are people so supportive for China. There are multiple theories about how they tried to hide about virus until it was uncontrollable and also about killing the doctor who tried to warn about the virus. They knew about the virus but didn't bother to control the situation. It started from a center of China, which is a huge country. Had they acted properly it wouldn't have escaped China thought might have affected the surrounding cities.

And please don't trust China's number about infections so blindly.

We can drag this discussion on and on forever. I mean what's wrong with some people Here. You can blame yourself for not closing your window when your neighbours house caught fire and smoke entered your house. But it doesn't mean that your neighbour can blame you for the very same reason if they do nothing to control the fire on their own.

You are full of conspiracy theories. And in such continue to full anti-asian sentiments that harm asians like me.

Either stick to the facts or let someone more knowledgeable handle it.

You’ve done this in almost every Covid-19 thread to where I borderline suspect you’re a bot.

The virus was most spread thru asymptomatic travelers via planes from China. Many countries got their first cases from traveling italians who didn’t show symptoms.

How are you suppose to contain something when there’s people who show no symptoms? Go back and review the timeline.

Symptoms do not show up until 7-14 days. You act like the very first sign of something wrong is automatically coronavirus. At the same time, back in January, hospitals and labs have not created testing kits dedicated to covid-19. It was a flu/cold test that people would have tested negative for both and then sent home.

And don’t blame China for being unsanitary when Italy has “natural springs” water fountains that’s unfiltered water and who knows what’s in there.

I'm curious. If the numbers will be proven true, 0,2% mortality rate of covid without a vaccine versus 0,1% mortality rate of influenza with a vaccine, do you think it still justifies the measures?

Estimates have put it at above 0.6% or 6X as deadly as regular flu still

The exact estimates do vary by source but I suspect that by 0.2% he's using the lowest estimates out there to try to prove his point

Ppl always cherry pick the best numbers to prove their point even if it's not the most likely numbers :rip:

I haven't attack China at all in other Covid 19 posts. If someone does a mistake they should take the responsibility and clear it up.

For your reference I am also Asian and we are attached to China. If you can't handle the truth and fact, don't bother to engage in discussion.

You barely posted any facts. You posted conspiracy theories that the doctor was killed.

We do not have the full investigation that Chinese Lab Techs and the Chinese Government. Will we ever really know? No. So that's not a concrete debate source.

You are arguing that China should beef up their sanitation BEFORE the outbreak to stop the outbreak

But that is impossible because people show symptoms 7-14 days and many people were and still are asymptomatic

Your arguing a causation via correlation angle and that doesn't work when something as unpredictable as a virus

The facts are the lab has a SAMPLE of something abundant in nature. The virus in nature caused the outbreak

unless you are arguing that this is a bio tech weapon from China which is...peddling the 2003 conspiracy that sars is a mix of mumps and measles...

Dilwyn

Why are people so dumb, it's so easy to understand.

Without protective measures the mortality rates will go up like crazy, simply because is just not sustainable to have that much sick people all at once.

I mean do you need more proof of this than spain and italy are giving? the only reason they are being able to slow this thing down is because they are doing eveything they can to make people stay at home.

It says in another tweet that estimates are 0,2 % - 0,5 %, so you are right that he is using the lowest estimates.

However, he is an expert in numbers. If he is cherry picking the best numbers to prove his point, so does anyone else.

All data that we have is directly connected to how many people each country decided to test, so it is very unreliable.

comparing it to the flu is IGNORANT and IRRESPONSIBLE.

of course the lockdowns and measures are not perfect, will need fine tuning, and maybe some measures will not be recommended in retrospective. but we need to take decisions in a unprecedent times, and most of the political decisions are driven by the best scientific data and public health knowledge we have. we will make mistake along the way, no ones denying that. but the way we are doing it now might be the best way to saves lives and avoid our healthcare system collapsing.

I LOVE GGD

No government has ever won a fight against nature. It's pointless. Humans are mortal beings. Let's each one be responsible and take precautions. It's a very difficult time for everyone. For some is way harder than for others and those are the ones we all (of course our governments too) should be taking care of.
