Trump is offering Universal Basic Income, suspending mortgage foreclosures, demanding cash payments to Americans, invoking the Defense Production Act to force private firms to produce needed supplies. Even if Trump is doing it to get re-elected, atleast he is changing to get your vote and does not feel entitled to it. While Democrats feel entitled to get your vote and refuse to change even in time of crisis. And I dont blame them considering Democrats openly say we will vote for you in all cases. The republican bill for stimulus checks would cap at the low end $23,500 to $75,000 at the high end. Thats not UBI, and that's substantially worse than means testing like Pelosi wants to do. Usually during a crisis, the current president always gets high ratings and sometimes re-elected. This happened with Bush during 9/11 and wars. People who are A political and know nothing about politics come more patriotic in time of crisis and support anything from the current president. This might cause no action being taken in a time of crisis when American need direct quick action now. She should pass Trump's bill and then negotiate to make it better and edit it. Means testing takes alot of time, Americans need to pay rent in a couple days or they will end up being homeless. Im not educated enough on the details of this subject to discuss it so I copy pasted the article below: "Means testing may seem reasonable. But it's actually not a great idea even in the best of times. Declared income is an extremely crude measure for the true level of financial security for an individual or household, which is made up of all sorts of intersecting factors, from debt to illiquid assets to particular circumstances. Some who genuinely need help will inevitably wind up on the wrong side of the phase out. Finally, means testing divides Americans. There are the people who get the benefits, who are almost inevitably marked as freeloaders indulged with handouts; then there are the people who didn't get the benefits, who resent those who did get them and who view themselves as the exploited taxpayers. These kinds of sentiments among citizens are politically poisonous, and make it harder in the long run for the government to do the kind of big public investments necessary to make us all better off. The way the Federal Reserve has lept to aid the financial markets while Congress dithers on helping regular Americans is already creating these sorts of divisions. The last thing Pelosi, the Democrats, or anyone else needs to do is sow the discord further."
