This is an unprecedented situation, I'm fine with people having legitimate criticism of the government but it is trying its best to handle this as best it can, listening to the best worldwide and national science and data it can find. We may not be in full lockdown but that does not mean we are automatically handling it like ****

Not so shocked as it was scheduled for June.  Even if it has cleared up by then it will take time to regroup and get back to normal.  Sadly most if not all of the big countries around the world that people enjoy visiting for business and pleasure are being hit hard by this virus.

How do you know? We just had a 90° turn in terms of plans switching from mitigation to suppression because of a report published by a university in London that projected up to 250,000 deaths if we did not change?

How is that not following the science?

You think there is some conspiracy where the government secretly wants to ignore its top scientific advisors and instead kill off a bunch of the population?

There is an unbelievable about of work that goes into preparing our NHS for this crisis, if we can buy ourselves ANY time whatsoever to ease pressure on them isn't that what we should be doing?

Schools, colleges and universities haven't been closed yet... although many (including the one that I go to) have taken it upon themselves to close.

The UK isn't in a full lockdown yet, compared to Ireland who is in a partial lockdown with a fraction of the cases the UK has.

Boris Johnson only changed plans after he came under immense criticism. His plan was to let millions of people become infected... he wants people to die, and people to become infected for "herd immunity". But inorder for that to work, you need to be sure that there are no long term health issues from it... which recent studies in China have suggested

The UK simply isn't testing enough people. South Korea said they should be testing everyone who show symptoms, yet the UK is bearly testing enough people. Infact Italy recorded more deaths than what the UK tested... yikes.

Just because they "switched plans" which don't even go far enough, it doesn't mean they are listening to the science. They only changed because of the criticism of major countries and the WHO

About schools and colleges, you realise that if you take everyone off school that means more people have to take time off work INCLUDING NHS workers to look after their kids? If not guess who may have to look after them? Grandparents a.k.a the most at-risk group for the virus.

Several countries like Italy and Spain who have lock downs are still reporting exponential growth and deaths? Sometimes the most drastic solution is not the be all and end all of solutions.

As for testing, do you realise that we cannot just magically create these tests out of thin air? Our capacity is for 4000 a day. We are doing our best to increase the capacity of the NHS to increase testing and create more ventilators which takes time. Sorry if we wasnt prepared for this and didn't already had 100,000 testing kits for a then-unknown virus that had yet to spread and the manpower to carry out all this testing without drawing further resources from NHS.

I would love to see you conduct a national effort at handling this virus without drawing some criticism.

Spain and Italy left it too late to do anything... thats why you need to go on a lockdown when the cases are very low. How can you possibly stop the spread of a highly infectious and fast transmitting infection if you don't shut down the country? Think of it like a kitchen... if something is majorly wrong, or when Gordon Ramsay finds mouldy chicken, they shut the kitchen and the restaurant down.

Actually, the biggest age group who seem to get it the most is between 20-29. Its just much more deadly to those with weak immune systems, and the elderly. Kids can carry the infection and pass it on older people.

People can work from home, students can study from home, school students can do work online... there really isn't a need for people to still be going to work. Except for people in the NHS and there should be more funding and they should get an increase in pay.

The UK should have learned from Italy and not repeated the same mistakes. A lockdown is the most effective way of stopping everything.
