What Was Gaga Thinking?

What was Gaga thinking when she accepted doing an entire tour with Kanye West? I mean, I know he wasn't as problematic then as he is now, and I know she cancelled it due to creative differences and mainly because of the 2009 VMAs fiasco, but why did she want to do it in the first place? When she cancelled it, she started planning a tour on her own, which would end up being The Monster Ball, an absolute artistic masterpiece, and the tour that arguably strengthened her claim as pop royalty. My point is: I think it is fairly obvious that Fame Kills wouldn't have been as important to Gaga's career as The Monster Ball was, simply because she wasn't as famous back then and the odds were against her, performing next to a known superstar that was far more established than her. You can even argue Gaga's career wouldn't be as succesful as it is today had she gone through with the Fame Kills plan. Not that many Grammys, and obviously not an Oscar, and not that big of an impact with both The Fame Monster and then Born This Way.

What do you all think?

:awkney: it‘s a tour that never happened...

Her songs were hits either way and she surely would have toured solo after it either way and the whole rest would have played out the same...

I think KANYE IS VERY CREATIVE and if that tour had happened it would have been bloody successful!

The leaked concepts were everything!

But as you said, after the Vmas, everything went into vain, though Gaga did used some of the aesthetic!

I can’t imagine an artist like Gaga going on tour with that 2-legged trash

The concept of a dual A-list tour with a battling stage vs. stage setup is so original  It's so difficult to get two huge stars to collab on one performance, collabing on a whole tour is unprecedented  I truly believe it would have been iconic in its own way

Because Kanye West was, back then, EXTREMELY CREATIVE and was about to drop the the most critically acclaimed album of the 2010s. They were gathering hip hop's and pop's most creative minds from 2009, by far two of the most impactful and influential musicians back then, in a single tour. It's absolutely impossible to predict Fame Kills impact, but probably wouldn't be so damaging for Gaga.

I think that is was too soon for Gaga though. Kanye West had three GREAT albums released and had a clear status, while Gaga was just starting (even if her start was really big). She was putting herself as high as Kanye with one album only, who knows how her career might have been.

Anyway, again, it was a good plan as far as we know. Gaga played all the cards there.

How can you say her success wouldn't be as big? She already owned 2009 with Just Dance and Poker Face, so she was not a stranger to the public. She already had a few performances to back up her stage persona. She was about to release Bad Romance, which was in itself hugely acclaimed. Not Monster Ball necessarily. So, even if she did Fame Kills, Bad Romance would have been equally impactful and her career would probably follow the same standards it did. The Fame Monster's success was mostly Bad Romance's fault, and Fame Kills would give her a somewhat similar recognition for her stage performance.

Besides, Fame Kills would have ended in January 2010. It was a two-month tour. The Monster Ball would probably start right afterwards. Absolutely no problem for Gaga, who again during that period released one of pop's most successful songs on the radio.

As for the Oscar, it came years after Gaga's decline. So, even if her career went bad after Fame Kills, we nowadays know she would achieve a similar success after years of being considered a flop...

I think you're really overreacting.

what it would likely have done which me and another user mentioned on here recently was change the path of her career. BTW album would not have been written (at least not the way it is), her next album would have probably been worked on with the people she was on tour with and likely collaborating with Kanye and his creative crew, producers etc. It would be a domino effect

Two reasons:

1. Kanye West is one of the most creative artists in hip hop. Similar to the mindset of Gaga’s with TFM.

2. Both of them were controversial, so why not create a tour that would bring two very different crowds of people together for the artist they admire.

Also, I still believe in the beginning of Gaga’s career she was going to work with and be highly known in the black community. You can tell by past projects.

Omg I just imagined. What if because of the tour Gaga started a relationship with him :ohno: and obvs that would mark her near future

While I am a Gaga fan so you can expect that, it is only a question about what could've gone differently in Gaga's career, it's not like I have a personal problem with the existence of this tour.

I think it was more that hip hop was HUGE at the time, so she was experimenting with different ways to get her famous. That was kind of Troy's M.O. It just so happened that the europop sound was the one that clicked with audiences, but if you listen to TF there's a lot of different genres that they try out .
