As a dual American-Canadian citizen I can honestly say we haven't had a President be anywhere near great as JFK--and JFK didn't even get a chance to be great. LBJ would've been great had he not screwed things up in Vietnam. Donald Trump is great in regards that he has compassion for human life, and his reluctance to bomb foreign countries is a strength, not a weakness. IDK anything about you but what I can say from my own experience is that I was too young to vote for Obama in 08 but voted for him in 2012. I watched him throughout his entire campaign from start to finish and the vision that he said he wanted to help transform america was on, "Hope and Change." With 2 full terms, he gave us a republican healthcare system that was marveled by democrats and then hated by the republicans, got us into more foreign entanglements than we were in before he took office. He beat Hillary largely because of the way he hit her on her Iraq vote. He used flowery language that made us all fall in love with Obama as the candidate and he gave us a liberal republican presidency at best. The Democratic Party has been espousing universal healthcare since the 60's and we still have not achieved it in this country. An entire lifetime has almost come and pass, and the democratic party hasn't delivered to its constituents and Obama didn't take advantage of his super-majority in congress when he had the chance. That is his legacy. It's not that anyone hates him, but when people try to give him more credit than he deserves, it angers a lot of people who were inspired by his message and disappointed with how he governed. I say “hate bandwagon” because it’s not until this year that I saw many Democrats go against Obama. Obama and Biden were two politicians that everyone seemed to love not even 5 years ago. It just baffles me that all of a sudden people think that they’re “awful politicians” and that Biden is a “terrible candidate” and that Obama was a “horrible president”. I don’t particularly care for Biden in 2020 at all, but I’m also not going to hate him or the people who support him because literally any of the 2020 candidates are better than Trump. But earlier this month, the former president warned the 2020 candidates of leaning too far left at a speaking engagement, saying “the average American doesn’t think we have to completely tear down the system and remake it.” This is all a speculation and the paragraph that follows is their justification. How is this news? The real purpose of this is to divide Democrats and I can see many of yall didn't skip a beat to get in line. Edit: a "close" adviser... when? 4 years ago? This is just my opinion so you can take it for what it’s worth. People are now criticizing Obama because his failures and presidency gave us Trump. People are now actually reflecting on what he actually did. He’s still widely popular among democrats but if he continues to shade the left as “twitter feeds,” you can expect the criticisms to get more intense. Let's not tread waters of being just as bad as the opposition. Trump for whatever reason has resisted the impulse to go to war from the military industrial complex so far (kind of). I mean he's still making terrible decisions with regard to foreign policy but he didn't let Bolton& others get us into war with Iran (so far). The rest of the original comment is bogus to me unless they're a pro-life person who thinks his stance on abortion makes him great, but I can't be sure. Either way, even though Trump is terrible on almost every single issue, we should give him credit for not being among the most warmongery and imperialist presidents of our country. I didn't make the connection on the, 'those poor children' part. My bad! My point with Iran is that we're not at war with them because Trump didn't let the foreign policy establishment like John Bolton get us into war with Iran. This is and has been going on for the past few months. I'm not saying his foreign policy is great but I am saying that despite his stupidity he actually hasn't gotten us into war and he should be given credit for that especially considering the fact all of the military establishment types are literally looking for reasons to go to war with Iran. Gagaloo911 12,959
He also told Biden he didn't need to run before Biden announced his candidacy. So wtf Obama? Lol Who does he support if he's not a fan of any of those leading in the polls? (Warren, Sanders, Biden, Buttigieg) Honestly I'm so disappointed by him anymore. And with many of the comments in here pointing out his inconsistencies and vast differences with how he campaigned versus how he governed, he really kinda did sell his supporters out. Me being one of them who even voted for him in 2012 and would have in 2008 if I could have voted then. For a President who campaigned on Hope and Change and won on that, who brought hope but not really any change at all, he seems to be really against change actually.. Exactly. That's my point! Despite ALL of that we aren't in the state of war you would think we would be in. It's crazy. But it's also why we need our next president to be somebody willing to meet with these other world leaders and serve up some diplomacy to ease the tensions across the planet so we can focus on climate change and not on regime change wars and nuclear arms races.
