In an (interesting) interview with Pitchfork, Charli threw some (light) shade at Taylor's Reputation Stadium Tour, for which she was an opening act.

Quote from the piece written by Bobby Finger:

"Those truncated opening sets starting at 6 p.m. were a far cry from the late-night shows in cramped, crowded venues where the Angels have grown accustomed to seeing her. “I’m really grateful that [Taylor] asked me on that tour,” Charli says. “But as an artist, it kind of felt like I was getting up on stage and waving to 5-year-olds.”

The performances served a purpose, though: It made Charli decide to never open for anyone again. “I’ve done so much of it, and it really cemented my status as this underdog character, which I like now,” she says. “But I need to just own my own ****ing **** finally.”"

UPDATE:

In a predictable turn of events, Charli clarified her statement on social media 'cause people are so ****ing serious about pretending she bashed Taylor :ladyhaha:

She didn't even shade her. AT *****NG ALL. What she said was that she was tired of opening for somebody else at this point in her career.

Besides, her fanbase really is wildly different from Taylor's

That's not all she said :ladyhaha:

Of course she didn't shade Taylor, that's not what I put in the title. But she did throw some light shade at the tour itself, but it's obviously not hate, I expect everyone to read the OP to get that :air: I just thought it was a hilarious thing to say.

Why does all these shady quotes always seem to come out of pitchfork interviews :air:

Regardless, I don't think it's that shadey to point out Taylor and Charli have two very different core demographics. Taylor's is much wider and it does include a very young audience too, Charli is more exclusively teens and young adults.

I doubt the Angels are older than the Swiffers tho :poot:

I mean, people going to her concerts are mainly 18+, since you don't really see kids in clubs:huntyga:

But I dont see her as a touring artist... I mean, shes barely known. She should be more appreciative that someone of Taylor's calibre is giving her a platform rather than saying the croud is too juvenile.

@Erich Johnson @DonatellaPop

She's a pop singer slash songwriter (she wrote Selena's hit Same Old Love) who was catapulted to fame after being the lead vocal on the smash hit I Love It by Icona Pop. Commercially speaking she's not much of a force as a solo artist but she has received consistent critical acclaim for her boundary-pushing and fresh take on contemporary pop. She's opened tours for Azealia, Coldplay, Paramore, Katy Perry, Halsey and Sia as well.

She's basically the cool pop chick that's flying under the radar.

Well, tbh, she did say she was grateful and that doing these opener shows helped to create a public persona for herself. It was just a lighthearted comment, I just thought it was funny and wanted to share.
